We will be having our first Spirit Night, next Friday- September 13th at 'Jacksonville Ice and Sportsplex'! Please join us, bring the whole family, invite friends! The entire ice skating rink will be reserved for DCSS, so let's get skating, while raising money for our school!

We would like to recognize students with high levels of growth, and high levels of achievement on the State FSA grades 5-8. Parents of students receiving awards will receive a "secret" invitation to attend or send someone to cheer for their student in their place!

Want your daughter to learn to code and change the world? I am encouraging girls in grades 3-5 and 6-8 to join one of the Girls Who Code clubs that will be offered by Mrs. Weyer. These clubs are FREE after-school programs for girls to join peers and role models through fun and interactive curricula. Girls will not only learn about how to positively interact with their community through code, but are also taught to be brave and resilient. The club will run approximately 16 weeks. The 3rd-5th grade meetings will be held on Mondays starting September 23rd. The middle school meetings will be held on Tuesdays starting September 24th. Club times will run from 3:20 to 4:30 each day. Both clubs are limited to the first 28 students. To sign up your child go to hq.girlswhocode.com and click Sign-Up (Select United States). Enter the child's birth date and click "I want to join as a Club Member". Enter your child's information and agree to the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. If your child does not have an email address, they can use yours. Enter your information. You will receive an email with additional parent/guardian information. Click on Join Your Club and enter your student's Club Code. The Elementary club code is FL14285. The middle school club code is FL14286. Confirm your student's club details are correct, fill out demographic information, and complete your registration. If you have any questions contact Cristina Weyer at cweyer@southsidecharter.org. She will email you the dates for all sessions and give a printed copy to your child at the first meeting.

DCSS Fine Art Department Musical Theatre Club for grades 2nd - 8th is intended to instill and develop singing/acting skills in our students. Highly recommended to those interested in audition for the school production of the year, Peter Pan Jr. Sessions will be held Mondays, STARTING September 23/ 2019 from 3:15-4:15 pm, Music Room 115. PLEASE help remind your students each morning if they have a club afterschool!

As you may be aware CSUSA has implemented a new online payment system called, My School Bucks. We have had to disable the links for online meal payments on our school websites while we work on system integration between PowerSchool, Heartland (the cafeteria Point of Sale system) and My School Bucks. Payments have stopped going into e-Funds for lunch only, while the new system is integrated any funds put in at the end of Efunds for lunch services are being manually transferred over.

The process is almost complete and we should be live by Monday 9/9/19!

While the online option is unavailable for lunch, parents will need to pay with cash or checks. The cafeteria personnel can update the system for meal payments received at school.

Class starts at 8:00, Instruction at 8:05 (Announcements, Pledge, etc. are 8-8:05)

Therefore in order to have adults finish the remaining cars and head to class, the back car loop is closed at 7:58 and K loop right at 8:00. You will need to park and walk in your child to sign in tardy, or MS parents drop at the front doors.

We apologize if this is an inconvenience, but we really need our instructors in class working with students.

Breakfast is served until 7:55 giving just a few last minutes to eat if needed.

Please do not park and walk your child through the parking lot before 8:00, as it is dangerous and interrupts the flow of traffic.

PM delays are still being caused by parents with middle schoolers going in lanes 1 & 2, and those students do not release until 3:15. Middle School pick ups need to be in the outer two lanes (furthest from the building)

Elementary pick up ends at 3:30, Middle School pick up ends at 3:45. At 3:30 lane 1 becomes "Aftercare Only" - which will be a slow lane as children have to be sent for from their aftercare classrooms. At 4:00 Pm, students will be brought to Aftercare for Emergency Care ($15)

Please attend a quick mandatory school based volunteer training meeting. We will go over all requirements, building expectations for volunteers and safety protocol. We will be offering more sessions but you need to complete the training before volunteering or eating lunch with your child in our cafeteria. More dates will be sent out in next week's newsletter!
