EMS 7th grade volleyball team wins league
The EMS seventh grade volleyball team finished an undefeated season and won the Patriot League tournament at Haysville West on October 14.
EMS girls tennis place at Patriot League
The middle school girls tennis team participated in the Patriot League tournament in Ark City on October 3. Overall, the team tied for fifth place with Ark City.
In Singles, Eleanor Lane placed fifth in #1, Brooklyn Knight placed third in #2, and Pyper Bruce placed fifth in #3.
In Doubles, Aubrey Larcom/Emma Spears placed seventh in #1, Sydney Terrones/Lilly Webb placed fifth in #2, Sophia Nuñez/Nevaeh Rogers placed seventh in #3, and Holly Taylor/Avery Milligan placed sixth in #4.
EMS student presentations about 9/11
Middle school students in Mrs. Vides’ Social Skills class presented what they learned about a topic of their choice surrounding the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on October 4 and 5.
These seventh and eighth grade students learned about what took place on 9/11 and how those events affected so many aspects of peoples’ lives. Then they did a deep dive into researching a topic from that chain of events that interested them.

EHS Cross Country finishes season strong

Blackmore brings Pumpkin Patch to school
Staff and volunteers turned the school grounds behind Blackmore Elementary into a Pumpkin Patch full of fun learning opportunities for students on October 18.
Classes took turns going outside and rotating around the various stations. Each stop included information and a hands-on experience of some sort.
EHS/Extend JAG-K hosts I & I Ceremony
El Dorado High School JAG-K students gathered at the Performing Arts Center for the annual Initiation and Installation Ceremony on October 26.
Students enrolled in the JAG-K program at EHS or Extend are initiated into the JAG-K Career Association. This important component of the program is designed to help members achieve academic and career success through the development and reinforcement of: respect for the dignity of work; effective decision-making skills; pride in accomplishments; positive self-esteem; respect for authority; and concern for the needs of others.

EHS students focus on future during Apply Kansas events
El Dorado High School’s College, Career and Community Specialist Staci Rickard coordinated three Apply Kansas days to help seniors complete college admission and scholarship applications, learn about applying for jobs and writing resumes from Kansas Works, or visit with a recruiter about what military options are available after they graduate from high school.

USD 490 students walk or bike to school during EWOW campaign
During the El Dorado Working On Wellness (EWOW) bike/walk to school campaign the first couple of weeks in October, 53 kids turned in 114 slips, each of which showed they had walked or ridden their bike to school for five days. That is a total of 570 days worth of walking or biking to school.
"This is the best result we have had to date. I am very pleased. Many thanks to the YMCA, SBA, BCC and 490," said Tim Connell.
EHS NHS hosts annual blood drive
El Dorado High School's National Honor Society (NHS) hosted a Red Cross blood drive on October 27.
NHS and KAY each host a blood drive annually to encourage staff and students to donate blood. During the NHS fall drive, there were 45 units donated. The KAY spring drive will be March 1, 2024.
For each 40 units received during the school drives, the Red Cross donates a $250 scholarship.
PIE Prize Patrol distributes over $11,000 in awards
The Prize Patrol from Partners In Education Foundation, Inc. (PIE) made its tour of El Dorado schools October 18 to distribute this year’s Spring Awards. Two different types of awards were presented: $10,450 in Grants to Schools, and $900 in awards from the Felix Alton Cantrell Jr. Fund.

BCC donates tickets for USD 490 students to attend volleyball game
THANK YOU to Butler Community College for inviting students to watch a college volleyball game on October 30! USD 490 fifth, seventh, and eighth grade students filled the stands to cheer on the Grizzlies as they played against Hutchison.
EHS grads to produce national broadcast with BCTV and the NJCAA
Several EHS grads who are now part of Butler Creative TV (BCTV) will be leading the production of a national broadcast on ESPN+ for the Butler Grizzly football game against Dodge City on Nov. 4.

White Eagle donates money for D.A.R.E graduation shirts

EHS KAY hosting formal wear givaway
The El Dorado High School Kansas Association of Youth (KAY) club is hosting their annual formal wear giveaway on November 18 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
This is open to ANY high school student and allows them to find formal dresses, men's wear, shoes, and jewelry to prepare for the spring formal dances. It is free for students to shop through the donated items.
