NCLA Day of Service
NCLA Day of Service
Who: Any interested 9th or 11th grade student who is not participating in testing on October 13 AND has transportation to a non-profit organization selected by the NCLA.
What: NCLA has contacted several non-profit organizations in the Triad area and made arrangements for our students to serve with them on the morning of October 13. This is not mandatory--it is an opportunity for students to volunteer in the community and earn service hours.
When: October 13 (specific morning times to come)
How: Students who do not drive will need a parent to drive and accompany them to the nonprofit organization. The school will not be providing transportation. Students will wear their NCLA Class tshirt while volunteering and their behavior will be a reflection of our school and honor code. Younger siblings may not attend.
Please complete this form if you are interested in and have transportation/ability to participate in the Day of Service. We want to try to ensure there are enough opportunities for any interested student. As soon as we have everything finalized, we will send out a signup link.

High School Yearbooks are for sale
Wingman Program
Hello all! We hope you had a great start to the school year! We are so excited to continue the Wingman Program this year. One of the things that is so special and important about our school is the wide age range of students that have the opportunity to attend, and building the relationships between those age groups would be a unique experience for all involved. Members would write to their buddies, occasionally visit them during lunches, and participate in activities together. High school students will also be able to receive service hours by joining the program. The purpose of this form is to gauge interest in The Wingman Program, but included are some general guidelines to give you an idea of what participants would be involved in.
Requirements for Participation
- Students will need to write letters to their buddy approximately 1 time per month
- Students will meet with their buddy once a month during lunch (details on scheduling will be worked out later)
- Other gatherings and activities will take place, but more information will be provided as these events come up
General Expectations
- Applicants will be reviewed by a committee and require approval for participation in the program
- Letters will also be read by a committee of students to make sure all content is positive and appropriate.
- HS participants will meet with their wingman buddies during lunch approximately 1 time per month

High School attendance policy
Mandatory Attendance (K - 12):
Every child between the ages 7 and 16 (or younger if enrolled) is required to attend school in North Carolina. Parents and legal guardians are responsible for ensuring that students attend and remain at school daily. Students should be present on time and remain in class until dismissal. Written excuses from parents are necessary for late arrivals, early departures, and absences (due within 3 days of absence) otherwise absence will be coded as unexcused. Absences due to extended illnesses may also require a statement from a healthcare practitioner.
Extracurricular Activities (K-12):
Students who are absent from school cannot participate in extracurricular activities on the same day, regardless of the absence type. School-sponsored activities are not considered as absences from school.
Excused Absences (K - 12):
Absences may be excused for valid reasons such as illness, quarantine, family death, medical appointments, court proceedings, religious observance, educational opportunities, and childcare. Written excuses from parents are required, but excused absences are still recorded.
High School Course Attendance:
Students with more than ten (10) absences in a course in a year, whether excused or unexcused, may not receive course credit unless an Attendance Waiver Request is granted. Students should be present on time and remain in class until dismissal. Written excuses from parents are necessary for late arrivals, early departures, and absences (due within 3 days of absence).
High School Avoidance of Courses and Lunch Passes:
Students cannot sign in or out to avoid courses or bypass lunch pass requirements, even with parental permission. Continuous behavior of this nature will result in a warning, and if it persists, the student may face suspension for unlawful absences. Students in grades 9 and 10 have a closed lunch policy, while grades 11 and 12 may have an open lunch with parental permission and school approval based on criteria. If a student checks out before or during lunch, they must provide documentation of an appointment or have a parent sign them back in.
Make-up Work After an Absence:
Students are permitted/expected to make up all work missed during an absence (excused or unexcused), including absences related to school-sponsored trips. All work must be made up within three (3) days following the student's return to school unless the principal/designee determines that extenuating circumstances might support an extension of this time restriction. If the absence results in missing assessments, the make-up for those assessments may be on the first day of the student's return. Students are encouraged to communicate directly with the teacher whenever absences occur.
IMPORTANT PARKING INFORMATION
Parents, please be mindful NOT to park in front of the elementary building for any reason during drop off or pick up times as it holds up the car line. Should you need to come into the Elementary building during those times, please pull into the back parking lot to park. We appreciate all your help in making the car line as quick and painless for everyone.
Important High School Links
Parking: Once you have your car and are ready to drive to school:
