Kindergarten Special Edition

Dear 2024-25 Kindergarten Families!

If you are a new family, I'd like to be the first to offer an official welcome to the Middleton community. If you are a returning family with a newly enrolled younger sibling, we are very happy to continue partnering with you to give your child the best educational experiences we can.

This special edition newsletter is to provide our new and returning families with the information you need to successfully start the school year with your soon-to-be Kindergarten student. You are always welcome to reach out by calling the Middleton front office at 503-825-5300.

Also, please feel free to share this newsletter with any families with a Kindergarten age child who may not have heard about Kindergarten registration. Thank you!

August 27 - Kindergarten Orientation

• Incoming K students and their families attend for a 2-hour block of time

August 28 - 29 - Kindergarten Ramp Up

• All Kindergarten students attend both days
• Students may work with different teachers and groups of students

August 30 - No school for Kindergarten students

• No school for Kindergarten students while teachers make placement decisions
• Class lists are sent out by 3:30 pm

September 3 - 4 - Family Conversations

• Families with their student come in for a 20 minute conversation with their assigned teacher

September 5 - Regular school schedule w/ assigned teacher

Registration for our incoming Kindergarten class is available online using the link below. Incoming Kindergarten students must turn 5 on or before September 1, 2024. Registering early helps the school and district start planning for the fall.

Online Kindergarten Registration

During online registration, new families will create a Sherwood ParentVUE account. Parents of current and former Sherwood students will log in with their existing ParentVUE account. Please call the Middleton office at 503-825-5300 if you have any questions.

Paper Registration

Families are also welcome to register using paper registration. Paper registration packets can be picked up from the Middleton front office.

This summer, incoming Kindergarten families will have more opportunities to meet staff and other families at Kinder Playdates. Kinder Playdates are 1-hour play times on the Middleton playground. They include arts and crafts and an introduction to the Kindergarten teachers and school principal. Two dates will be selected and shared soon. More information will be shared with all registered kindergarten families via email over the summer.

Kindergarten Open House is an event for parents and incoming Kindergarten students to visit the school, hear from staff members, and meet their peers.

Middleton Elementary

Families will be have the opportunity to engage in a variety of activities with their student in the cafeteria, meet representatives from the Parent Advisory Committee (PAC), take a picture in the self-serve photo area, and see a few parts of our school building.

If you’re enrolling your student or looking to move to Sherwood, you may locate the schools for a home address using our online Boundary Map. Enter your address in the upper left corner to search. Contact Kami Golden at kgolden@sherwood.k12.or.us or 503-825-5011 with boundary questions.

The school day begins at 7:55 a.m. with doors opening at 7:45 for general arrival. Students eating breakfast at school may arrive as early as 7:30 a.m. The school day ends at 2:15 p.m., with the exception of Wednesday when school dismisses at 1:15.

The Sherwood School Board has also approved our school calendars for the 23-24 school year. These calendars can be found on the district calendar webpage linked here.

We are excited to share that our Middleton PreK class is now open for registration! Our PreK is open to students who are age 4 on or before September 1, 2024. More information about our PreK program, and information about interest forms can be found here.

Our parent volunteer group is a very important part of our school. We are in need of several volunteers to get our PAC positions filled. Get connected with the Middleton PAC today! Feel free to reach out to middletonpacpres@gmail.com to learn more about how to get involved.
