A Note From Principal Jeff Brandt
Hello DHS Families,
I hope everyone was able to rest, relax, and enjoy the holiday season! Even though the weather has told a different story so far, we are moving into January. As we transition into the new year, with it brings a multitude of events at Dickinson High School.
The first semester will be coming to a close with semester testing on January 11th and 12th and the second semester will be starting on January 16th. Registration for the 2024-25 school year will be underway soon, along with planning and preparation for any changes that may be on the horizon for the next school year.
During these busy times, it is important that we continue to enjoy the process that we get to be involved in and take a moment to be grateful for the people who we get to enjoy the process with.
I hope that all of you had a wonderful New Years and that 2024 is happy and healthy!
Jeff Brandt,
Dickinson High School Principal

Each violation will be recorded in log entries.
Semester 1 Class Exemptions
Test exempt days for Semester 1 are January 11th &12th.
Test Exemption/Attendance/Tardy Policy
Semester tests are given at the conclusion of each semester (18-week grading period) in all classes. Students may meet the test exemption requirements if:
The student has an A is exempt, B– with 4 or fewer absences and/or 4 or fewer tardies, C– with 3 or fewer absences and/or 3 or fewer tardies, and D–with 2 or fewer absences and/or 2 or fewer tardies. Students having an F must take the semester test.

All makeup / incomplete work must be completed; if not teachers may request you during the exemption days.
Other:
Medical, extracurricular and funeral absences will not count against the student's ability to earn test exemption.
Students wanting to better their grade in a class may take the semester test whether they are exempt or not. This must occur during the scheduled test time.
Parents/guardians that wish for their child to take semester tests may elect NOT to participate in the semester test exemption policy by contacting DHS.
Students that are exempt from taking semester tests are not required to attend class, if student reports to school they must attend class.
Students that are required to take semester tests must stay in class the entire class period.
The semester test schedule will be presented to students and teachers by the end of September each school year. (Last two days of the semester)
Handbook Policy / Short Information to share with students
Have an A you’re exempt if you do not have an ISS, OSS, U.
Have a B you are exempt if you have 4 or fewer tardies or absences. C–3 or fewer tardies/absences, D–2 or fewer tardies/absences. Absences counted (A, U, E)--If you have an ISS, OSS, or U you are not exempt.
You can be exempt in one class and not the other.
Students need to be here. Attendance will be taken accordingly. If a student is exempt do not count them absent.
Students must remain in the classroom for the duration of the class block.
Students who are gone (excused) need to take care of assessment/work before they leave. If for a reason this is not possible communication should happen. This is the student's responsibility and has been told to parents and students in Student Affairs.

The Dickinson High School Student Council attended the North Dakota State Student Council Convention December 10th-12th. The students attended a few presentations including the key note presentation featuring Youth Motivational Speaker Kyle Wilkom, and a speech given by ND Principal of the year, Ryan Hanson.
The three day convention was packed with information to bring back to their peers. They provided a wide range of topics including Financial planning, ending vaping, and Alzheimer's Awareness. They ended their days with karaoke, movies, games, and dancing. The DHS Student Council Advisors said they felt this was a successful trip and they are excited to see how the students will apply the information that they learned to DHS.
