Family Update
Dublin Jerome High School

Take Responsibility, Always Growing, Better Together
August 12, 2022
A message from me...
Good Afternoon!
What a wonderful weekend to have prior to the start of school. It is my hope that you all a moment to share some time with your friends and families prior to the start of school and all the busyness that comes with it.
To help everyone prepare for the start of school I am sharing some operating procedures and processes to help everyone get ready for next week. Please take some time to review and let us know if you have any questions.
Arrival, Drop-Off, Pick-Up, etc.
- School day is 7:55-2:42. Tardy bell rings at 7:50 and school begins at 7:55am.
- All students should enter Brand Rd (Door 1) or Hyland-Croy (Door 7) entrance to begin the day.
- Busses begin dropping off students around 7:25 on the Hyland Croy side of the building. If you are dropping off your child there are signs on the Hyland Croy to help the busses and parents have a smooth transition. The Hyland-Croy doors lock at 7:55am. If you are close to that time, please drop off on the Brand Rd. side of the building.
- If you drop-off on the Brand Rd. side, please note that our student drivers also park on that side. This area is very congested at the start of school. Best drop off time is between 7:30-7:40am.
Attendance and Tardies:
- Please review pg. 20-24 in the Student Handbook below for the Comprehensive Attendance Policy for DCS. We will have some flexibility for the first few days to allow them to adjust to the schedule and traffic. The same will apply for classroom tardies.
- Teachers will review expectations over the first few days but will not begin monitoring until the following week.
- If your child will be absent you may call or email the Attendance Office.Attendance Hotline: 614-718-8256 Attendance Email: djhs_attendance_vm@dublinschools.net Mrs. Renard and Mrs Bender will happy to assist you.
Bus Dismissal: If your son or daughter rides the bus, they will need to get to their bus each day. Our busses pick up on both sides of the building. Below is are the sides that the bus pick up for dismissal each day:
- Brand Rd.: 2, 71, 77, 86, 117, 145, 153
- Hyland-Croy: 6, 40, 42, 52, 58, 75, 93, 122, 131, 146, 148, 150, 154
We will have staff to direct students to the correct side of the building to get on the proper bus.
Lunch: Please see the information below from Sodexo about school lunches. Please note that lunches are not longer free.
Chromebooks: It may be a good idea to dust off the Chromebooks this weekend, charge them up and login. That way we can address any issue for students early in the year. Also, our incoming 9th graders will trade out their MS Chromebooks on Friday, August 19th.
Working Wednesdays: For those of you new to Jerome on Wednesdays' we follow a slightly different bell schedule (see below). During this time staff takes part in a variety of professional development. Students begin class at 8:20. Our first Working Wednesday will be on Aug. 24.
Our staff will be visible and helpful over these first few days of school. We recognize returning back to school after summer is a transition for all. We will everything we can to help your child have a successful start. Please let us know what help you may need as we move toward our first day!
I am so excited to see everyone on Wednesday!
Enjoy this gorgeous weekend!
Mike

💚DJHS UPDATES💛
Parking Pass Information
Parking pass information was shared with senior yesterday and will remain open until Monday at 8:00am. The reason it took a little longer to open the form was due to a waiver form update.
Student are permitted to drive to school in the first week without a pass. We will distribute passes beginning on Aug. 18 and will do so throughout the following week. Please feel free to email Mr. Pusateri
Here are some general details:
- Parking passes sold will guarantee a spot in the Brand Road lot, however parking each day will be on a first come, first serve basis. Because of ongoing construction and number of students traveling to Emerald Campus this provides us the most flexibility.
- All students should park in the Brand Road Lot.
- We will sell passes to Seniors, Juniors, then Sophomores sales will be ongoing through the first days of school. Once purchased students should display their pass.
- The cost of the parking pass is $60.00 for the year.
- DCS Driving Policy can be found on pg. 40 of the DCS Student Handbook.
Schedule Change Guidelines
SCHEDULE CHANGE GUIDELINES (pg. 18 Student Handbook)
ADD: The last day to add a credit-bearing course is August 23, 2022
W/D: August 12, 2022 – November 4, 2022 (Notation of the course will be expunged from the transcript.)
- Please review these guidelines in the student handbook and understand that we may not be able accommodate a schedule request change due to course availability.
- On the initial days of school School Counselors will be working with students that have complex schedule needs.
- Students requesting to make a change for convenience (i.e early release) will be one of the lowest priority.
- Requests for a schedule change to have a certain lunch are not permitted.
- Please use form below for schedule change requests.
Student Locker Requests
Please complete the form below to request a locker. The form requires a DCS email so please use student email to request.
School Supplies
As a general reminder the high school does not send out supply lists to begin the year. Some general helpful items:
- Have a backpack. We are continuing to decrease the use of lockers and this allows students to move about more freely.
- Start the first day with a notebook, pens/pencil, and Chromebook.
- Each classroom teacher will share necessities on their syllabus the first few days of school.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out!
Student Email Address Changes
This summer all student emails have been updated to a new structure that no longer shows a graduation year. Families should have already received an email with their student's new email structure from DCS. Student Passwords have NOT changed. Please let us know if you have any questions!
School Meals 2022-23
During the last school year, children and families benefitted from no-cost school meals for all students, made possible by special permission from the United States Department of Agriculture. Unfortunately, these permissions have expired. Dublin City Schools and the Ohio Department of Education cannot extend the permissions for no-cost meals for all students.
School meals will still be available to all students; however, they will not be free to all students. Households may apply for free or reduced-price meal benefits - applications are available at: dublinschools.net - as was done before the pandemic. Eligibility for free and reduced-price lunch is based on federal income guidelines or participation in other programs such as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and Ohio Works First. For additional information concerning the National School Lunch Program, please see the U.S. Department of Agriculture school lunch question and answer webpage.
For the 2022-23 school year lunch prices for Grades 9-12 will be as follows:
- Breakfast: $1.50
- Lunch: $2.95
- Reduced will be $.30 and $.40 respectively
