The Siskiyou School’s Smoke Policy
If you would like your child to wear a mask, please follow up with your child. Teachers are not responsible tracking mask usage during smoke.
If smoke continues in the valley around the start of school, we will have the air purifiers and AC units running at all times. We will track the air quality on AirNow, and decide on outdoor recesses or classes based on the following AQI scale:
- Good (green, 0-50): Recess and outdoor classes okay.
- Moderate (yellow, 51-100): Recess and outdoor classes okay.
- Unhealthy for sensitive groups (orange, 101-150): Recess and outdoor classes okay; masks recommended for sensitive children.
- Unhealthy (red, 151-200): Recess and outdoor classes moved inside. When outdoors, masks highly recommended.
Any index past red will automatically move all recesses and outdoor classes inside.
PLEASE SEND YOUR CHILD WITH A MASK TO SCHOOL on the first day of school in the case of smoke. Thank you!
What to bring on the first day!
Kindergarten:
- Backpack
- Full water bottle
- Hearty Snack
- Bring a smoke mask for the student to have.
- Other items requested by Ms. Caterina (she'll send a lovely letter!)
Lower Grades:

- Full water bottle
- Hearty snack
- Bring a smoke mask for the student to have in their desk.
Upper Grades:
- All the above and the items on the supply list sent by your class teacher.
Opening Day Ceremony & Coffee, Tues, Sept 5, 8:35-10:00am
FIRST DAY: OPENING CEREMONY & PARENT COFFEE
All families are invited to our Opening Ceremony where the whole school will gather to celebrate the start of the school year. Our tradition is to welcome our new first grade and new families during this time. The ceremony will begin promptly at 8:35am.
Please be aware of friendly neighborly parking on Clay Street. No parking is allowed on Glendale Avenue. After the ceremony, please join us for our Parent Coffee - a time to reconnect with old friends and meet new ones as we welcome first grade parents and new parents.
Attendance Voicemail Box
If your child will be absent, please use the attendance voicemail box by calling the main office line and extension 14 when prompted (541-482-8223, ext. 14). Please leave a detailed message with your name, your phone number, the day you called, and the reason for your child’s absence. If illness related, please give detailed symptoms and note kids can return to school after 24 hours well. Absences will be relayed to teachers via Office Manager, Phyllis Cooley. Thank you.
Grandparent Mailing Addresses
Welcome Back Days (this week!)
Open House is an opportunity for the children to greet their teacher, come check out their classroom, and find the chair or desk that fits just right! Open House for each class is offered at different times, but generally on Thursday afternoon and sometimes on Fridays.
Check-ins are optional, brief meetings between parents and teachers to “check-in”. These meetings are made by appointment on a sign-up sheet that will be sent via email. Check-ins are offered by each teacher at different times.
Cubby Day is a special day for our new First Graders to become acquainted with their classroom, find their cubby, and learn about their part in the special ceremony on the First Day of School. First Grade parents can sign their child up for a Cubby Day spot in a link sent via email.
