Don't forget the important events this week:
* Interrelate evening @ 6pm on Tuesday in the Library
* Preschool's Biggest Morning Tea @ 9:30am on Wednesday
School Gates
To ensure the safety of all Banksmeadow PS students, the driveway and pedestrian gates at the Wiggins/Trevelyan Streets entrance will be locked between the hours of 9am and 3pm. If you need to enter the school between these times, please enter from Brighton St - this gate will be unlocked. Please ensure that you close all gates behind you when entering or leaving the school.
If your child arrives late to school, please accompany them to the office and fill out a 'Notice of Late Arrival' form.
Cybersafety Information Session
The majority of students now own an iPad, iPod or internet enabled device. Many students use the internet regularly, with some accessing social media sites. It is extremely important that we take measures to ensure the safety of our children when online. The Youth Liaison Officer from Mascot Police will be visiting the school on Wednesday 22nd June to deliver an information session on Cybersafety. She will inform parents of some of the dangers that children may be exposed to when using the internet, and will provide some tips and strategies for parents to implement to keep children safe. This session will be held at 6pm in the Library. It will be relevant for parents with children of all ages.
Student Absences
All student absences from school must be explained by providing a note to the class teacher on the student's first day back at school. The school is required to mark all unexplained absences on class rolls. These rolls are subject to inspection by the Home School Liaison Officer (HSLO) throughout the year. The HSLO investigates patterns of absences or high numbers of unexplained absences, and follows these up with families. Please ensure you explain all absences to the class teacher.
It is appreciated if, where possible, appointments are made outside of school hours to ensure that your child does not miss out on vital learning. Please be aware that partial absences for students who leave early or arrive late due to commitments such as swimming lessons will be marked on the roll as an unacceptable reason for leave. Please book these lessons outside of school hours.
Silent Auction Opportunity
One of our families has kindly donated a pair of hospitality tickets for next Wednesday's State of Origin - see details below. We will be holding a silent auction for these tickets, with money raised going toward school equipment.
If you would like to send through a bid for the tickets please email the school banksmeado-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au with the subject title "Silent Auction". In your message, please include the amount of your bid and your contact phone number. Bids will close at 3pm on Tuesday 31 May and the highest bidder will be notified by phone that afternoon. Payment can be made by cash to the school office on collection of your tickets. They are hospitality tickets so include: guest appearance speaker, drinks & food, seats in the middle tier, half time drinks and food, post match function, travel on buses and trains to ANZ included.
Lost Property
The Lost Property tub in the school office is quickly filling up. If your child has lost any items of clothing please check the tub. We also have some students who have lost items of clothing but can not locate them in Lost Property. It would be appreciated if you could please check any jumpers and hats that you may have at home to ensure your child has not accidentally picked up someone else's.
Interrelate Evening - TOMORROW
Every two years, Banksmeadow Public School hosts an evening presented by Interrelate. This evening provides an opportunity for parents and children in Years 3-6 to attend and learn about issues relating to personal relationships. It can be a great ice breaker for topics which may otherwise be difficult for parents to discuss with their children.
The Interrelate evening will be held on Tuesday 31st May from 6:00pm. There will be two sessions:
* Session 1 - Where did I come from? (Years 3-6) @ 6:00 - 7:00pm
* Session 2 - Preparing for Puberty (Years 5-6) @ 7:15-8:15pm
Notes containing information regarding payments were sent home last week. Please return payment by tomorrow morning.
