ESD Superintendent Update
Some thoughts for the starting school year

August 2023
Superintendent's Welcome
Welcome to another promising school year! I hope you had a restful and enjoyable summer break filled with new experiences and unforgettable moments.
I am thrilled to extend a heartfelt welcome to all our students and families–new and returning. Our dedicated teachers and staff have been working diligently to prepare engaging and supportive learning environments for each and every student. This year we will continue to focus on academic excellence, critical thinking, and creativity.
Our district strives for positive change and continuous improvement. Over the summer, we have been busy preparing to welcome students and families to the 2023-24 school year:
Several school sites have new buildings and facility upgrades that will provide improved learning environments to accommodate growing enrollment and the expansion to a full-day Kindergarten program.
Administrators, teachers, and support staff attended summer workshops to continue building their instructional toolkits.
Upgrades to the Etiwanda School District mobile app provide families with a new parent-teacher communication system called Rooms.
These preparations, initiatives, and tools underscore the value we place on our partnerships with our families and our commitment to offering an outstanding educational experience for students.
We look forward to welcoming students and families to school on Monday, August 7, 2023.
Together, let’s make the most of the opportunities ahead.

New Feature in the Etiwanda School District App
The Etiwanda app has been improved to include a new platform for home-to-school communication. The new feature, Rooms, provides an option for class announcements and two-way parent-teacher chat. Families will be able to toggle between teachers or toggle between children, all in one app.
To access Rooms, families will need to download the Etiwanda app. Once the Etiwanda app is on your mobile phone, watch for an email on August 7 after 4:00 p.m. with a link to activate the Rooms account. You will be prompted to create a password when clicking the link. Once the setup process is complete, Rooms will be synced with your child’s teacher and ready to receive or send communication. If you miss the email on August 7, reminders will be sent on August 10 and 15.
To download the Etiwanda app, visit the App Store or Google Play Store. Rooms is also available on a desktop or laptop through eduRooms.com.
The Etiwanda app can be your hub for everything Etiwanda, in addition to Rooms. Click on the Menu button for access to:
Access to Aeries Parent Portal for grades
Links to Breakfast and Lunch menus and EZ School Pay
Access to Child Care information
Live feed on district and school announcements
Links to Forms and Documents, including the 2023-24 calendar, medication forms, and more.
New Signal at Banyan Street and East Avenue
To improve pedestrian and vehicle safety, the city of Rancho Cucamonga installed Flashing Yellow Arrow traffic lights at the intersection of Banyan St. and East Ave. While the flashing yellow arrows will look different to drivers and cyclists, research suggests they are more intuitive and safer than traditional signals when drivers turn left and must yield to oncoming traffic.
The new flashing yellow arrow signals that drivers can turn left after yielding to all oncoming traffic and any pedestrians in the crosswalk. Remember that oncoming traffic has a green light, and drivers must wait for a safe gap in traffic before turning left or right.
