Hello Bulldog Families.
Only in Ohio can you begin the week with temperatures in the 80’s and 90’s to quickly turn at the end with the highs in the 60’s! The cooler weather is certainly refreshing and is a sure sign that autumn is already here.
Our students settled into a week of classes after the excitement of homecoming, and I started to notice more students engaged in our Learning Lab. As we are halfway through the first quarter, it’s important for students to make sure they are completing all missing assignments so that they are in good standing at the end of the quarter on October 13.
I also want to take a quick moment to express the importance of attending school in-person every day. We are working really hard to make sure our students understand that there is no substitute for in-person instruction and when too many days elapse in attendance, the makeup work becomes too overwhelming to complete. Now that COVID restrictions have been adjusted for schools, we strongly encourage our families to help our young students understand the importance of “showing up”. The famous saying, “80% of success is just showing up”, is certainly true. If your students come to school regularly and on time, we will make sure they are learning and are prepared for what comes after high school. We can’t do it without your support. Please help us help your students.
Take some time to review some of the important dates noted below as well as review the statement about unexcused absences related to in-car driving sessions during school hours.
Have a nice weekend.
In service to our Bulldogs.

STUDENT SHOUT OUT
Senior Chris Thompson’s Heart of Service
Chris Thompson, a Batavia High School student, is often seen throughout the building working with our head custodian, Ginny Pittman, or shadowing our school resource office, SRO Ashcraft. He assists in the cafeteria every day and makes sure the area is clean and safe for all of our students. Every Friday, he arrives at 5:30 a.m. to sweep and run the floor scrubber in the gym and during basketball season, cleans the gym floor every morning.
During homecoming week, we watched Chris come in at 5:30 a.m. on Friday and assist in the cleaning and set up for all of the homecoming festivities while working late into the evening. He truly has a servant’s heart and does not ask for people to notice. His humility is what makes him special.
When we asked Miss Ginny about Chris, she stated that “Some days he drives me crazy, but most days I couldn’t do it without him.” Thank you, Chris, for everything you do for Batavia High School.
PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING
If it is necessary for your student to take medication while in school, a parent/guardian must bring the medications to our Nurse’s Office. Please do not send medications with your students or ask them to bring the medication to the office. Thank you for helping us with this matter.
Please note that removing your students from school to complete their in-car driving requirements is considered an unexcused absence. Please make arrangements to schedule all in-car driving sessions outside of the regular school day.
Are you wanting to travel to Brazil and Argentina, but missed the informational meeting? Please check out the tour page for details. Please note the enrollment deadline is September 30th, and if enrolled by the 25th there is a $200 discount. Please email Mr. Scheel (scheel_k@bataviaschools.org) with any questions.
