Fall Student Update
Strong student performance in our schools is the result of our student-centered approach to education, with excellent classroom instruction, strong curriculum and innovative programs that foster lifelong learners. As an organization that is focused on continued growth, our district administrative and teaching staff is continuing to analyze the CAASSP data and our own internal assessments to continue our history of strong student achievement that makes our schools among the best in the state.
To review the presentation to the Board regarding the most recent CAASSP test, please go to the Board agenda and review item H3.
Update on Community Engagement for Facilities
Last night, the independent consultant from MIG presented an update on the Community Engagement for Facilities process to the Board. LASD initiated a Community Engagement Process in May 2019 to engage the public in finding a solution to house Bullis Charter School in the long term.
To date, community members have shared new ideas and evaluated previously considered solutions to house BCS in the long term in two charrettes with over 450 participants. Community members who participated in the charrettes were given the opportunity to ask questions, and we've answered those questions related to the facilities discussion here.
Tonight, there will be a third multi-lingual charrette, or discussion of facilities ideas, from 6-7:30pm in the Santa Rita Multipurpose room. These discussions will be held in Spanish, Mandarin, Russian and Japanese, so please attend only if you will participate in these languages. The format will be the same as the previous two charrettes, so if you have already attended one, please allow others to participate in this important discussion.
Workshops in November
The second phase in the Community Engagement Process are the workshops. Two workshops will be held, but we do ask that you please only attend one workshop so that we can ensure all have the ability to participate. Participants in the workshops will have a chance to discuss, evaluate and weigh support for the community-generated ideas from the charrettes. MIG will then organize and summarize the results, which will be presented to the LASD Board in January. We have added a little bit of time at the front-end of the workshops for an optional open house time to review materials, particularly for those who haven't had the opportunity to attend a charrette.
