Susan H Nelson Newsletter
February 11, 2024
A Message from Our Principal
Happy Sunday to all of you!
I hope you've had a great weekend!
I have a few big items that I want to share with you in this edition of the newsletter!
#1 The Susan Nelson WASC Visit:
Thanks to the parents who have signed up to help us out with our WASC visit!! Your help is very much appreciated! We need about 5 more parents to participate! Are you able to help out? The agency that's working on our accreditation is called W.A.S.C. (the Western Association of Schools and Colleges--and is pronounced "wosk"). WASC will be doing a "virtual" visit on March 4, 5 & 6. They always like to talk to parents to see what you think about how we're doing! If you're interested, please let fill out this survey linked here!
#2 Audits to Determine if Seniors Are On Track to Graduate
As I mentioned last week, our Counselor at Susan H. Nelson High School, Dan Blanchfield, is currently completing a detailed audit of all our seniors to see if they're on track to graduate. We haven't finished the audits yet, but as soon as we do we'll let you know! Once completed, all parents/guardians and students will receive a copy of the student's audit via email and via the US Postal Service. We ask parents/guardians and seniors to carefully review their senior audit to ensure that they are fulfilling all their requirements for graduation in a timely manner. STAY TUNED!! We're almost done!!!
#3 Temecula Vally Adult School
I want to put in a plug for our adult school! "Temecula Valley Adult School" is right here at the very front of our campus. We offer classes that lead to a High School Diploma and also assistance with the GED. We also actually are starting to offer VOUCHERS so that students can take the GED for free! The adult school has flexible hours with our lead teacher (Mrs. Ingle) here Monday and Wednesday nights until 7:00 pm (plus regular business hours the rest of the week). If you know someone who may benefit from these services please have them call (951) 294-6512! The staff there is very friendly and can answer all of your questions!
If you have any questions or concerns please let me know!
Sincerely,
David Schlottman
Principal

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is now available online for high school seniors nationwide to fill out for the 24-25 school year. The FAFSA is the most vital step in applying for federal grants, work-study, and loans for college. The TVUSD requires our seniors fill out the FAFSA in their senior year as a graduation requirement.
Click on this link to get started now (this will take you to the actual government start page for the FAFSA): FAFSA
Also, Susan Nelson HS students have the great good fortune to have Ms. Ruth Ramirez, from the CalSoap program, on campus every Friday from 8:00am-2:00pm to assist our seniors with filling out their FAFSA application.
Students and parents can contact Ms. Ramirez at the link below and book an in-person or virtual appointment to get assistance filling out their FAFSA form.

Seniors are urged to not delay completing the FAFSA form! Please feel free to contact Ms. Ramirez today to set up your appointment.
Financial Aid Workshop
Also, there is a Financial Aid Workshop for all TVUSD students and their parents/guardians that will be held at the Temecula campus of MSJC on Monday, February 5, 2024, from 5:30pm-7:30pm. Please see the attached flyer for details. There is a second attachment below that has a QR Code students can access to sign up for the workshop in advance.
