A GREAT FIRST WEEK!
Dear Families:
What a week! The energy from Open House and Curriculum Night carried into our first week of school. Kids were happy and had awesome behavior the first week. Most of them even remembered how to say our PAWS pledge with our morning announcements. It's like they never missed a beat over the summer and picked right back up where we left off in June. It is wonderful to walk our halls and hear our classrooms buzzing with learning. The smiles and hugs from students all week sure filled my bucket and made me even more excited for week 2.
Thank you for a successful week of student arrival and dismissal. Our families have been awesome understanding and following our safety protocols. I am so thankful for all of you and have appreciated the kind words from so many parents thanking our staff for working so hard to create an efficient and safe drop off and pick up for our students. We are in this together. All of your eyes and ears help to maintain the safest environment possible for all of us. If you see something that looks concerning or if you have any ideas of how to streamline or make things safer, please reach out to me.
Thank you for helping us to keep our loop in front of the building free of cars so emergency vehicles can access the building during school hours. I know parking and walking in takes a couple extra minutes, but it is so important for everyone's safety.
Please mark your calendars for September 20 from 6:30-8pm for our first HEPTO meeting of the year. Our parent group hit the ground running and is already making sure that this is an incredible year for our students, staff, and families. It is a fun group to be a part of and I'm sure you will love getting involved.

FREE BREAKFAST AND LUNCH FOR ALL STUDENTS
Due to new legislation, Michigan School Meals, every student will receive free breakfast and free lunch. Students are also welcome to bring their lunch from home if they prefer. Although breakfast and lunch are free of charge, if you qualify for free and reduced lunch, please fill out the form as it helps us to receive extra funds to support our students' academic and social emotional needs. In fact, Mr. Burke's PBIS position is fully funded with these dollars, so please please please take the time to complete the form if you think you may qualify. We would hate to lose this important support to our school. You may find the form by clicking on the attachment below.
Due to safety and security, we are not able to accept lunches for students from meal delivery services such as Grub Hub.

ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL PROCEDURES
CAR NAME CARDS
Family name cards were sent home last week to be hung from your car visor. This helps with speed of the pick up line so we can have your child positioned at the correct cone for pickup. If you did not receive one, please contact the main office and we will send one home.
DROP OFF AND PICK UP PROCEDURES CLIFF NOTES
You can see our procedures in their entirety if you refer back to last week's notes, but here is the short version:
Bus Riders: Bus loop is in front of the school. In order to maintain a safe and secure bus loop, visitors and parents will stay outside of the bus loop during drop off and pick up.
Walkers: If students arrive early, they will wait at the bike rack, since it is within sound and sight range of the crossing guard. At 9:10am, students will be signaled that it is time to enter the building as they see staff open the doors and students are released off of buses. Kindergarten and 2nd grade walkers will enter at Door A4. 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade walkers will enter at Door A6. If an adult walks their child to or from school, we ask that you stop and wait at the bike rack as well as part of our safety protocols to maintain a secure bus loop.
Car Riders: The drop off and pick up line is in the back parking lot. It begins off of N. John St. It will not be possible to park, walk across the car line, and find your student in the pick up lines. This is for safety because of moving cars and also allows us to maintain a secure student waiting area.
