Principal's Corner
On February 15, the District's Early Release/Teacher Collaboration Day, we would like to invite you to our "All Assembly" time in the main gym scheduled from 11:48 - 12:17. At the assembly, we would like to recognize our MS and HS First Semester Perfect Attendance and A/B Honor Roll Students. See students in the below photos.
We also have our 2nd benchmark MAP testing coming up on February 6-8, from 8 - 10 am, for all students grades 6-11. Thursday, February 9 will be schedule for make-up testing. Seniors do not take the MAP test, therefore, during the week of MAP testing, Seniors will be on the "late start" schedule. Senior classes (1st period) will not begin until 10:00 am. Parents, please encourage your student to do the very best they can. Teachers will be looking at the 1st benchmark MAP test with each of their students and goal setting for the 2nd benchmark test. The MAP test is an important tool for both parent/students and the school. It let's parents/students know where they are academically and helps the school plan for needed improvement and curriculum assessment.
Seniors, don't forget to check your email for very important graduation information. Dates are important and sometimes there is no second chance; don't miss any!
Thank you for all your help and support.
Accelerated Reading Program
Families,
We are very excited to let you know about a new program, Accelerated Reading, we have started at the Middle School. We will be looking into introducing it at the high school level next year.
This year Park County Schools is participating in the Accelerated Reading Initiative in elementary and middle school. Middle School students have been participating in this program since second quarter. This program is a fun and competitive way to get our students reading. Students can earn prizes for achieving certain levels of points in AR. The lowest point level is 10 and currently goes all the way up to 200. We will create higher levels if needed.
AR is also a project grade in Reading class for middle schoolers. In sixth grade, it is 15% of the students' grade. I will be updating grades biweekly in the gradebook to keep you up to date. I have copied and pasted the information from the gradebook for you to peruse below.
If you have any questions or would like some tips to help your child find books at school or the local library, Mrs. Volk, our librarian, is always happy to help. Sixth graders have time on Thursdays to visit the school-wide library after their tests. Students have also been given an online library card to access ASPENCAT. AspenCat can be utilized at home via computer or cell phone as well as at school.
Stay tuned for more information.
Happy Reading!
