Greetings FWAFA Family,

Our annual PTSO/APEX events are here! This is PTSO's biggest fundraiser of the year, and we need your support! All funds go toward Classroom Enrichment, Teacher Grants, and initiatives that support our Campus Improvement Plan including literacy, field trips, and arts experiences.

APEX brings together classroom leadership lessons and fun activities for our students. To learn more, click on the flyer link that is below.

Ready, Set, Show is a student choreography challenge and fundraiser for FWAFA Dance. Student choreographers receive their music and cast this week, spend 10 hours or less rehearsing, and this weekend, they perform their new works for an audience.

You can see the performances and vote for your favorite dance at 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 15 and Sunday, October 16 at 2 p.m. Both performances take place at TeSA’s black box theater, seating is limited.

Calling all foolish mortals: join the FWAFA Choral Department and special guests from FWAFA Dance for a spooktacular concert celebrating all things October!

Come celebrate the season with TBC as they take you through the incantations of the Wayward Sisters or ride along with CCT as they conjure up the sights and sounds of the Great Hall at Hogwarts. Maybe you'll even travel on the back of an Alebrije to cross the Marigold Bridge with SGT and FWAFA Dance as they explore the culture and beauty of Dia de Los Muertos!

Dress up in your favorite costume, get on your broomstick, and fly in to see "Goosebumps" on Friday, October 14th at 7:00 p.m. at Birchman Baptist Church. There will even be a few sweet treats for the ghouls and ghosts who show their spooky spirit!

Texas Center for Arts + Academics and Fort Worth Academy of Fine Arts Present: Oklahoma!

"Oh, what a beautiful day!" Come see the FWAFA stage become O-K-L-A-H-O-M-A-!

As the sun rises on the plains of Oklahoma in 1906, we bask in the warm glow of a budding romance between the charismatic Curly and the lovely Laurey. Living with her Aunt Eller, Laurey catches the eye of farmhand Jud, who will compete with Curly for her hand and her heart. Meanwhile, Ado Annie, an exuberant romantic, falls for both the dashing young cowboy, Will Parker and Ali Hakim, the traveling salesman. The two young women must choose which path to take as tensions rise at the Box Social dance.

Alive with a magnificent score, diverse styles of dance, and a cast of spirited characters, Oklahoma! is a tale for all to see. A classic for years to come!

Show is appropriate for all ages.

We need your help. We have spent 4 months trying to find bus drivers to drive for our events, field trips, and performances. We have tried Facebook ads, Indeed, Linked-In, specific education websites, and nothing has materialized. We've had several interviews and just haven't found the right people.

We need your help. Please, if you or someone you know would be willing to drive the busses for our amazing students, we would love to talk to you.

If we can't find someone(s), then we might be in a position to charge for field trips and performances to rent charter busses.

The position is as-needed because we don't have a normal bus route. The pay is competitive. If you're willing to be trained, we might be able to help pay for your training.

We are moving and grooving along into this school year. The safety of our students and teachers is top priority! We’d like to offer some reminders about arrival and dismissal procedures.

Drivers should NOT use electronic devices while dropping off or picking up children. Cell-phones and other devices create an unsafe situation. Drivers should drive the posted speed limit on Hulen Street and decrease speed as they enter the FWAFA parking lot.

Arrival:

· Students may arrive at 7:20 a.m.
· Students will not be admitted to the building prior to this time, unless part of a morning tutorial with one of their grade level teachers.
· Students must stay in their vehicle until they have been admitted into the building.
· Drivers should pull their vehicles all the way to the exterior doors to help with the flow of traffic.
· Students should be ready to exit the vehicle as soon as it comes to a stop.
· The back East doors close at 7:55 a.m. After 7:55 a.m., students should use the front door to enter the building.
· For the safety of students, drop off in the morning is one lane. In the back, students should only be let out in the right lane, so they do not cross through traffic. In the front, students should be let out in the left lane.
· Students arriving after 8:05 a.m. must be checked in through the front office.

Dismissal:

· No early dismissals allowed after 3:15 p.m.
· Drivers should follow the designated lanes, divided by grade level
· Drivers may not park in the front and come into the building to wait for their child(ren).
· After 4:00 p.m., students who are late pick-ups should be picked up from the back (East side) of the building.

Before/After School Rules:

· Students must stay with their parent/guardian if they have been released from the teacher.
· Students are not allowed to walk around the building without supervision, even with parent permission.
· Students and parents are not allowed in teachers’ rooms before or after school without a teacher or administrator present.

We want to thank you all for following these procedures. There have been some recent accidents at dismissal involving teachers being hit by drivers in the pick-up line. We have recently consulted with a safety and traffic professional that will allow us to make some changes to our dismissal procedures. Stay tuned for more information coming soon.

If your student is tardy or absent, please send notes to attendance@fwafa.org. Also, a student needs to bring in a doctor or parent note within 3 days after the absence for an unexcused absence.
