Message from the Superintendent
The holiday season, as busy as it can be, is also a time to stop and reflect on all that we have to be grateful for and what brings us joy. Our learning community’s acts of generosity and kindness, unwavering support and service, and genuine appreciation for each other make me feel delighted and inspired.
Thank you to our students, teachers, staff, administrators, parents/guardians, and community partners for how hard you work. My wish for all of you is that you take time to rest and restore over Winter Break and enjoy your holidays.
I wish everyone a fond farewell to 2022, and a hopeful greeting to 2023!
Schools Out for Winter Break
Our schools are out for Winter Break on December 17-January 2, and offices will be closed to the public.
Classes will resume Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2022.
Spiritwear Created by Robotics & Sewing Clubs
Lake Monsters Robotics and Lake Oswego Sewing Club collaborated to make light-up holiday sweaters for our high school principals and superintendent. The project was created in the spirit of increasing connections between the two clubs and two high schools and showing appreciation for what our administrators.
Thank you to students Renee Liu, Reilly Mullen, Megan Tian, and Audrey Laborie who led the charge, and for the support of their advisors Lisa Grimm, John Sperry, and Michale Goldsmith who are always welcoming more students who are interested in developing their craft.

LO Student Wins Music Composition Contest
Join us in congratulating violinist Skye Neal, an eighth grader at Lake Oswego Middle School, for her hard work and artistry. Skye submitted an original composition for string quartet to the Oregon Music Education Association Student Composition Contest and WON for the entire Middle School division across the state of Oregon! The nuance, skill, and creativity that Skye brought to this work are impressive. Well played Skye!
Reading for a Good Cause During Winter Break
Help encourage an elementary school student to read for a good cause this Winter Break! Our high school students have created a really fun new program, the Winter Break Read-A-Thon. Watch this delightful video to learn all about it!
Donations will go to the Lake Oswego Public Library and SMART Reading, an Oregon-based organization that provides access to books and reading sessions to students in need.
Elementary school families can use this link to create an account for pledges.

LOSD Transportation Facility Plans
LOSD is developing plans to relocate its transportation facility to the district-owned property on Lakeview Boulevard in the industrial zone of Lake Oswego. LOSD has met with and conducted outreach to residents nearest the proposed location and hosted community-wide engagement forums to gather input. The district follows the City of Lake Oswego development code, which provides opportunities for public input. Find information about the project in the LOSD Question and Answer posted on the district’s Transportation Facility information page.
Medical Guidance from Health Authorities
Please take a few minutes to review the information and resources below regarding Oregon Health Authority (OHA) and Center for Disease Control (CDC) updates and resources for respiratory viruses, including Influenza, Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), Monkeypox (mpox), plus Hand, Foot, and Mouth disease (HFMD). Information can also be found on our District Nurse website page.
Oregon health officials recently issued a call to action in response to the rapid spread of RSV and Influenza virus. State health officials recommend that people:
Stay home when sick.
Cover coughs and sneezes with the inside of your elbow, or with a tissue that you immediately throw away after use.
Clean and disinfect all high-touch surfaces, including doorknobs, faucets, chairs, countertops, and tables.
Regularly wash hands with soap and water or use hand sanitizer, especially after coughing or sneezing into a tissue.
Avoid sharing cups, water bottles, and other drink containers, or eating utensils.
Get a flu shot and stay up to date on COVID-19 vaccinations, including new bivalent boosters. There is no vaccine for RSV.
Consider wearing a mask in crowded indoor spaces.
Sign Up for HERO Kids Registry
HERO (Health Emergency Ready Oregon) Kids is a voluntary, no-cost, secure registry launched by Oregon Health Authority that lets families record critical details about their child's health. First responders and hospital emergency departments can quickly and easily access that information in an emergency. For emergency health care providers faced with split-second decisions, HERO Kids Registry can fill the pre-hospital information gap. HERO Kids is not just for kids. It is open to any Oregon child or young adult through age 26.
