From the Principal...
MacArthur Families,
Our conference sign up is available on Skyward. Conferences are a wonderful time for guardians, teachers, and scholars to connect about the academic and social growth that the students have made during the first part of the school year. It is also a time for you, as parents and guardians, to share with teachers more about your child and learn about ways we can work together to further their academic progress and success. Here are a few tips for how you can best prepare for conferences as a guardian:
- Prepare questions in advance. What groups has my child been assigned to? Is my child finishing the work assigned in class? The most important question of all is "How can I help my child at home?"
- Let the teacher know if there is a particular topic you want to discuss. If you want to talk about your child's progress in reading, let the teacher know.
- Describe clearly any situations in the classroom that make your child uneasy. Ask the teacher to describe your child's strengths and weaknesses.
- Exchange information. Let the teacher know about any situation at home that may affect your child's schoolwork, such as a death in the family, a new baby, or a change in daycare arrangements.
- Take notes. Your conference may result in several actions for both you and the teacher. Taking notes will help you remember what was discussed and what was agreed upon.
- Start with a positive attitude. Don't waste valuable conference time by focusing on the negative. You and the teacher are a team. Positive comments such as "How can we solve this problem working together?" will be the first step in coming up with good solutions.
- Discuss the whole child. Your child's social development is as important as academic success. Include questions about their interaction with other children and willingness to participate in class discussions.
I look forward to seeing you all at conferences! I will be stopping in during conferences to hear about all the success being made.
Sincerely,
Mr. Gonzalez

School Happenings
Harvest Celebrations
Our Harvest Celebrations on October 31st are quickly approaching. Your scholar's classroom teacher will communicate specific happening for their classroom.
It is important to ensure students are in comfortable costumes to sit in the classroom. Please help your child make safe and respectful decisions about their costumes. Students may not wear a mask during school. Make-up, weapons, fake blood, or inappropriate dress are not allowed.
If your scholar is bringing treats/candy to share, please be mindful of the classroom's health rules to ensure there is no conflict with student allergies in the classroom. If you are unsure, please contact your scholar's homeroom teacher directly.
Notes from the Counselor:
Destination Imagination
NED is coming!
The NED Show is a character education program that centers around three important messages that have lifelong relevance: Never give up, Encourage others and Do your best. During the assembly, students will learn about the importance of these three life skills while also enjoying storytelling, magic, humor and yo-yo tricks.
We are excited for this and please stay tuned for more information to come home closer to the show.
News from the PTA
Thanks to all of the planners and volunteers who made our Fall Festival a rousing success. We had some amazingly decorated cars for the Trunk-or-Treat, exciting games for kids and adults and a very highly contested Chili Cook-Off Competition. Congratulations to Jennifer Pitterle for taking 1st place, Jill Chausow for taking 2nd place and Sue Bonlender for taking 3rd place in our competition with Jill Chausow also winning the crowd favorite as well. I don’t think any of the 9 chili submissions were less than stellar and I know the judges had a tough time deciding. On that note, thanks to Principal Gonzalez, GSD School Board Vice President Amanda Reinemann and Fox 6 reporter Brhett Vickery for taking the time to judge our competition.
Everyone needs to start preparing their chili recipes for next year. We will also be holding a Best Decorated Car competition voted on by the festival attendees next year!
Get ready for our next event which is the Bingo Night and beginning of the Fall Book Fair on the evening of November 4th.
Come view more Fall Festival pictures on our Facebook Page and Instagram. If you have Fall Festival pictures, please feel free to send them to us at ptamacarthur@gmail.com.
