An Array of Inspiration: Celebrating Pan-Asian Artists
Grades: 4-8
Join us as we celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. We will explore different Pan-Asian artists from our collection to learn more of their processes and inspiration.
Art and Native Stories Re-Told
Grades: 4-6
In honor of Native American Heritage Month, take a closer look at Indigenous communities in American art through the work of contemporary Indigenous artists in the Carter’s collection. We will highlight the importance of representation and the reclamation of culture.
Art Basics @ the Carter: Portraits (RECORDING)
Grades: 1-3
Students will view and explore several examples of American portraiture and, alongside museum educators, discuss how portraits might allow subjects, artists, and viewers to communicate important information about individuals and their identities.
Art Basics @ the Carter: Sculpture (RECORDING)
Grades: 1-3
Students will practice observation and inferencing skills with Anna Hyatt Huntington’s The Team to discuss the different jobs of horses and determine what is troubling the horses in this artwork.
Art Basics @ the Carter: Still Life (RECORDING)
Grades: 1-3
Students will view and explore two examples of American still life and, alongside museum educators, discuss the artists’ processes in composing their artworks. Students will then have the opportunity to get creative in composing their own still-life sketches.
Artists Exploring: An Interview with Willie Cole (RECORDING)
Grades: 6-8
In this recorded module, learn about artist Willie Cole and the symbolism behind his Five Beauties Rising series. This fun conversation explores his process and what inspires him to create.
Beasts, Birds, and Bugs: The Art of Scientific Observation
Grades: 3-5
Investigate ways artists have used scientific observation to represent the world around them. Through close looking, data collection, and hypothesizing, students will describe, identify, and classify creatures and their habitats depicted by various artists.
The Eerie and Unusual (RECORDING)
Grades: 5-12
Creep into the Library and Archives at the Amon Carter to view illustrated texts, including Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein and works by Edgar Allan Poe. Uncover chilling nineteenth-century cultural norms while lurking though spirit photographs, “sleeping beauties,” and eerie artifacts while hearing stories from Amon Carter archivist and historian Jon Frembling.

Engineering makes beautiful objects and artists have taken notice. In this program we examine artworks in the Carter's collection and explore how artists take inspiration from engineered structures and apply those concepts in their own creations.

In this module, we’ll discuss Georgia O’Keeffe’s Ranchos Church, New Mexico while learning about the concept of thermal mass.
Full S.T.E.A.M Ahead In Art Exploration

Let the Carter’s collection be a source for discovering artists’ use of math, science, and engineering concepts as creative fuel for their work. Make connections between S.T.E.M. processes and art.
Little Learners Storytime: Drum Dream Girl: How One Girl's Courage Changed Music
Grades: Prek-2
To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, we will highlight the book Drum Dream Girl: How One Girl's Courage Changed Music by Margarita Engle. Have you ever dreamed of doing something that has never been done before? Inspired by the story of Chinese-African Cuban artist Millo Castro Zaldarriaga, this poem tells her story.
Little Learners Storytime: Larry Gets Lost in Texas (MAY ONLY)
Grades: PreK-2
Celebrate our great state of Texas with this story of adventure and friendship. Larry and his best human friend Pete become separated on a family trip. Will they see each other again? Follow the search across the wide-open spaces of the Lone Star state. Students will explore works of arts from the Carter collection.
Little Learners Storytime: Maybe Something Beautiful - How Art Transformed A Neighborhood
Grades: K-3
This month, in honor of Earth Day, we will highlight this beautiful story of joy and possibilities. Maybe Something Beautiful by F.Isabel Campoy and Theresa Howell tell the story inspired by the actual events of Mira and her love for her city despite its gray appearance. When a mysterious stranger visits, he sees what Mira sees, and together, they bring possibilities to reality.
Little Learners Storytime: Making A Great Exhibition

Ever wondered what it takes to have an art exhibition in a museum? Join us to learn from start to finish the many people and skills it takes to put an exhibition together. To help us explain we will read the book Making a Great Exhibition by Doro Globus and Rose Blake and explore different artworks from the Carter's collection.
Little Learners Storytime: The Little Book of Joy

Join us this month as we bring in the New Year, thinking about what brings us joy. This beautiful book reminds us of the importance of finding joy in the small things. Students will explore works of art from the museum collection.
Little Learners Storytime: When My Cousins Come to Town (FEBRUARY ONLY)
Grades: K-3
We will feature When My Cousins Come to Town this February by Angela Shanté, Turner Publishing Company, LLC. Every Summer, a young girl looks forward to her cousins coming to town. All the cousins have cool nicknames that fit them perfectly. And she's the only one without one, but this Summer that may change. Students will connect the story and art while exploring the museum's collection.

Little Learners Storytime: Rabbit's Snow Dance (JANUARY ONLY)
Grades: PreK-2
It's the middle of Summer and Rabbit is tired of waiting for the snow he loves. He soon remembers he knows a special dance that can bring snow. However, Rabbit doesn't realize that there is a reason for every season. Join us and learn about an Iroquois folktale about the importance of patience, the seasons, and friendships. We will explore these themes while making connections to the Carter's art collection.
Little Learners Storytime: Snowflake Bentley (JANUARY ONLY)
Grades: Prek-2
Join us at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art for this January ONLY story time adventure. Take our virtual experience of learning about Wilson Alwyn Bentley or "Snowflake Bentley," whose love of snow and determination made contributions to art, but also to understanding snowflakes firsthand. Our little learners will learn about water crystal formations, snowflake facts, and the reward of perseverance all through the Carters collection.
Planet Earth: An Artistic View (APRIL ONLY)
Grades: 3-6
Tour the planet through our collection. The student will recognize and understand the significance of art as a medium to influence conservation movements and contributions to the environment. They will engage with works of arts to better understand that artists are taking different roles outside of art, at times as scholars, scientist, historians, and influencers while highlighting the world's beauty.
Spooktacular Little Learners Storytime: Creepy Crayon! (OCTOBER ONLY)
Grades: Prek-1
For this month of October join us for this funny and creepy tale of Jasper Rabbit. Jasper struggles with his schoolwork because there's just too many other fun things to do. Soon he finds a special crayon that's purple, it's pointy, its perfect. Or is it? Students will make connections to the story and works of arts from the Carter collection.

Verses, Stanzas, and Art
Grades: 2-4
Poetry for Elementary age learners. Come share a laugh, use your imagination, and identify figurative language while examining the connections between diverse poems and works of art at the Carter.
As a bonus, students can flex their creative writing muscles in a post-program activity led by Carter Community Artist Brenda Ciardiello.
Visions of Black Artists (FEBRUARY ONLY)
Grades: 4-8
In honor of Black History Month, we kick off and explore year-round the Carter’s collection to learn about Black artists visions and contributions to art from their perspective. Experience the work of artists using a variety of media across time periods and geography.
Voces Latinas
Grades: 4-6
Learn about the life and art of Latino artists in the Carter's collection whether you are celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month or learning about Latino culture any time of the year. Navigate through Latin America and across time as we explore the rich cultural influences in these artists’ work.
Wintry Wonderland (SEASONAL)
Grades: 1-4
Learn the intricacies of individual snowflakes as we view and discuss works of arts featuring wintery wonderlands in the Carter's collection. Discover how artists have depicted the beauty and wonder of snow and ice.
Who Paints Your Story? Native American Depictions in Art
Grades: 4-8
Analyze how artists have depicted Native Americans throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and the response by Native American artists. We examine paintings, photographs, and works on paper to explore various perspectives. Discussion will include identification of icons, stereotypes, representation, and more.
