Welcome Fall!

Dear Families,

What a welcome September was in our building! With the change of months, we've had a cooling down of weather and a more settled feel inside the building.

Students and staff are establishing routines and beginning to make their goals for the year ahead. Our students in grades 1 - 5 have started on their iReady diagnostic for the fall to help provide important information about the needs of each child. Students in K - 3 are working on a variety of literacy assessments to help create a more complete picture of each student as a reader.

As we continue to live, teach, and learn in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, please continue to monitor your child/ren at home for symptoms. If they are not feeling well, please call the office and send a note when they return. If your student has been in direct contact with someone outside of school that has tested positive, please notify the school and begin your self-quarantining procedures. We want to do everything we can to perserve full, 5 day a week learning for all of our students. We appreciate your help in making that happen!

Picture Day is Coming

School Picture Day is scheduled for September 8th. Due to the high number of student and staff absences at the moment, this will be for individual pictures only.

We will do whole class photos and picture retakes on September 29th.

Chromebooks and Cases

Our chromebooks are each issued with a case. These cases are designed to help protect the chromebook from drops and falls, and are only designed to fit the actual chromebook inside.

Please help reinforce this with your child--no other objects (pencils, headphones, earbuds, etc.) can go in the case. These can move around and get between the screen and the keyboard and cause the chromebook screen to break.

Counselor Connection

Miss Warwick would like to encourage parents to practice "Mindfulness" with their kids. This is being present and aware. In our busy world, our minds and bodies can get wrapped up in the hustle and bustle, and may have a hard time slowing down. It is also easy to get stuck thinking about things in the past or the future, while forgetting to focus on the here and now. The benefits of mindfulness for children and adults include decreased stress and increased resilience.

Try this activity with your child to decrease anxiety and focus on being in the moment. This is a 5-4-3-2-1 "Grounding Technique." Name 5 things you can see; Name 4 things you can feel; Name 3 things you can hear; Name 2 things you can smell; Name 1 thing you can taste. Try this activity periodically in different settings. It's amazing how your responses change based on your environment. Have fun and enjoy your new sense of calm .
