CSD Top 3
Your monthly school district newsletter
Thursday, Oct. 5
Dear Canby Families,
Happy fall! Here at the Canby School District, we are focusing on the theme “Dream and Do.” We all share dreams for our students, and we want to work together to make those a reality. Now, I hope you enjoy this month’s CSD Top 3 – those three things we think you’d like to know, plus the school lunch menus.
We’re Celebrating our Principals!
October is National Principals Month, and that’s a great excuse for us to celebrate our incredible principal team! These leaders truly care for their students, school families, and staff. They work hard to make everyone around them feel happy and proud about their school experience. Please join the Canby School District in thanking them!
Meet the principals (from back left to right, and front left to right):
Vicky Aguilar serves as the associate principal at Baker Prairie Middle School. Outside of school, she likes to go dancing and spend time with her family and friends.
Nicole Goff is new to the Canby School District this year, serving as the principal at Carus Elementary. When she’s not at school, she likes to spend time reading.
Andy Pauls is in his second year as the principal at our K-8 school, Ninety-One School. He loves being outside, including yard work, paddle boarding, camping, fishing, and woodworking to name a few.
Cherie Switzer is the principal at Lee Elementary, and her favorite hobbies outside of school are traveling and family time.
Kelly Rogers is in his second year as principal at Eccles Elementary. When he’s not at school, he likes to watch youth sports and occasionally play sports himself! He also likes to go jogging with his sons.
Cari Sloan is in her second year as the principal at Canby High after serving as an associate principal there. Cari enjoys reading!
Megan Jackson is also in her second year as one of the associate principals at Canby High. Megan has been known to cook for her family and friends and enjoy a leisurely meal outside. She also enjoys yoga and coffee with a friend.
Jeremy Ensrud is in his first year as an associate principal and athletic director at Canby High. Jeremy enjoys water sports such as rafting, swimming, diving, and fishing.
Angie Navarro is principal at our dual language immersion school Trost Elementary. When she’s not serving students, families, and staff, she likes to go hiking.
Sam Thompson moved from Carus Elementary to Baker Prairie Middle School this year. He loves to work outside, root for and attend OSU Beaver sporting events, and root for and attend his kids’ events.
Dr. Christine Taylor leads Knight Elementary School. She enjoys tennis and volleyball when she’s not at school.
Ben Winegar is one of three associate principals at Canby High. Outside of school, Ben likes to go fishing.
Homecoming Festivities were a Hit!
Last week, Canby High School celebrated Homecoming week. This fun annual event was a great chance for staff and students to work on building a positive school culture right at the beginning of the school year. Throughout the week, students and staff dressed up for spirit days, including Barbie vs. Ken, class colors, and “Canby Out.” Students also participated in a parade downtown. Then, the community joined in Friday night for a football game, along with senior night and honoring class royalty. The week concluded with a school dance on Saturday.
Nominate a Canby School Staff Member Today!
The Canby School District is teeming with the most excellent staff members, and we would love to see them honored. Nominations are open for the 2024 Oregon’s Teacher of the Year and Education Support Professional (ESP) of the Year awards.
The teacher award recognizes preK-12 public school teacher excellence, with the Teacher of the Year serving as the face and voice of exemplary educators across the state.
For the ESP award, nominees must be employed in an Oregon public K-12 school district. The award showcases the contributions of employees in food service, transportation, building maintenance, health care, classroom assistance and other technical school work.
Please consider nominating a Canby staff member today!
What's for Lunch?
Check out the new monthly meal menus here. If you have not applied for free school meals, do so today either online or using a paper application.
