Our fondest farewell to you, Millie and Tracy! You meant so much to us all and we will miss you.
PrePrimary goes to the Zoo!
On Monday, May 14th the PrePrimary students from Cowle’s Montessori went to the Blank Park Zoo. This field trip was to culminate a year of learning and discovering about the characteristics of animals in different “animal kingdoms”. It was through discovery, collaboration, observation and research that the students learned about the similarities and differences of the following animals: mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, insects, and other invertebrates.
Concrete work such as puzzles, 3-part cards, life-size models and art work helped the students understand the characteristics of the variety of animals. The students sorted animals that had similar characteristics plus wrote about them during “Writer’s Workshop”. Many non-fiction books were read and discussed during group time. Students discussed that we know about these animals because scientists have been observing, recording, collaborating and discovering for hundred of years and are still learning. Student involvement in their learning is imperative, they too can be part of the excitement of discovery, collaborating, recording, and observing. Science is all around us, when we take the time to make connections we create a better understanding of the gift of life. We are making a conscientious effort to do more of this in our PrePrimary classrooms.
Thank you from the PrePrimary Team!
