TUMUAKI TALK
Kia ora e te whānau,
Well another busy and fun week at our kura. The week started with a special blessing of the relocated and refurbished Room 14 and 15 on Monday morning. We were extremely humbled and appreciative of Papa Jerry Hapuku and Tawhirimakea Karaitiana joining us to support and guide us with this blessing. Because this building is not a new build, the wairua (soul) remains and it was important to set the new intentions of te wahi hou (the new space). Following this blessing, Tōtara (Room 5 & 6) were able to move into their new space. Please call in and see the transformation from what it was into a really light modern environment.
Our thanks also go to the team at Simkin Construction for the finished product. There have been so many challenges and interruptions in this project, but they have worked hard to see it through. We still have some external ground work to be completed once the rain stops!
Simkin now begin the project of office extension off what will return to be the library, and the next roll growth classroom beside the hall. I will share some further details about this in the future.
While some councils are struggling to get enough people standing for election...that's not the case here at Mahora for our School Board. My thanks to the 6 whānau members who have put their hands up to be considered in this year's election...ka mau te wehi.
It's really important that all our school families have their say about the Board of our school. This is your chance to consider the make up for the board and what you think fairly represents our community.
Today (Friday 26 August) all eligible voters will receive information via email about who has been nominated, how to vote and when it is due. There will also be information about each of the 6 candidates so you know why they have put their names forward. We have 5 parent reps to elect. If you don't get the email, please check your spam and if not there, please contact Kirsten in the school office and she will help. If you don't have email, this information will be posted to you.
Voting closes on 12 noon Friday 23 September, so please have your say!
Te Toka Tūroa - Teacher Only Day Friday 9 September
Our staff along with 200 other teachers and support staff from our Kāhui Ako are participating in the Te Reo revitalisation in kura/schools across Aotearoa New Zealand. We are due for our final full staff learning day at Heretaunga Intermediate on Friday 9 September, so our kura will be closed for instruction that day. Thank you for your ongoing support.
Ngā mihi,
Rohan
AKO IN ACTION
Kōwhai Hub have lots of happy learners enjoying their mahi/work. Their term focus is all about natural disasters and in amongst specific literacy sessions with their kaiako, the tamariki are learning all about floods, tornados and earthquakes.
Room 1 and 2 are our littlest learners in our kura. Check out these gorgeous tamariki having fun doing lots of activities to help their learning. Writing, counting beads and making shapes were some of the choices they had while their teachers, Mrs Walker and Miss Birrell were taking their groups.
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR PIKI HAERE CERTIFICATE RECIPIENTS!
CONGRATULATIONS to Te Ariki who has learned all his Teddy Bear words, ka rawe!
HĀKINAKINA AND MUSIC
On Tuesday, we held our Colour Run which was a fundraiser for Whanake Team’s camp at Lakes Ranch in Rotorua. It was a massive success and it was so good to see all the smiles on our tamariki... it’s been a long 2 years for them at school in regards to events. They all had so much fun amongst the clouds of paint. We couldn’t be more proud of the way they supported each other and showed tuakana teina in their houses.
We owe a few thank you messages…
- Thanks to the whānau and students that got in behind this fundraising initiative and raised funds for our seniors. What a great team effort!
- Thanks to the whānau that came in to help with the paint throwing and water squirting.
- Thanks to our staff for pulling together to create such a fun afternoon and for organising such a successful fundraising event for our school.
Please spend some time over the weekend selecting your prizes, if you haven’t done so already. The prize selection will close on Thursday 1 September.
HEALTH UPDATE
This week we have seen an increasing number of our staff with Covid 19 and/or sickness. We are managing to cover it currently and thank you for continuing to keep tamariki home if they are unwell.
My thanks to our staff who are covering spaces and roles currently....ka nui te mihi.
PTA UPDATE
Our AGM and next committee meeting will be held on Monday 5 September at 7:00pm in the school staffroom. We would love to see some new faces there.
The disco that was scheduled next week has been postponed.

Spring Collective
When: September 17 2022 / 11:00am – 3.30pm
Where: The inner field to the Athletics track
The Spring Collective event involves cultural groups performing on stage, food stalls, bouncy castles, information stalls and face painting. A great chance to host an inclusive event to kick off the summer season. It is also a great opportunity to come down to get a free health check provided by Health Hawke’s Bay.
This is a free event for the community, so that families can come and have fun while watching some entertainment with different cultural groups within Hawke’s Bay. The event is designed to bring laughter and fun to the community after the ups and downs we have had throughout the life of covid. We emphasise the enjoyable aspect to keep everyone in good spirits with their peers.
Uniform donation
If you have any second hand uniform you would like to donate to the school, it would be greatly appreciated.
Please drop any good condition items into the office.
