Our 2020 Fourth Graders finally had an opportunity to leave their "positive mark" on the walls of Nixon School. Thank you to the family members who took time out of their schedule to bring their children to NES for this event.

Library Media Design

Check out our remodeled Library Media Design space! Students in grades K-4 will visit Library Media Design two times per week. This special will be facilitated by Mr. Siegel!

Portrait of a Graduate... Portrait of Me!

For more information on the district's Portrait of a Graduate, check out this link. All NES students are encouraged to draw a picture of themselves or submit a photograph of themselves to be included in this display! Pictures/photographs can be handed into classroom teachers, who will make sure that Mrs. Lynch receives them.

Open House

Thank you to everyone who attended our Open House on Thursday! It was wonderful to see families enjoying the hallways of Nixon School again! A huge shout out to our custodial crew - Ms. Sue, Ms. Denise, Ms. Anna, and Mr. Ronnie, as well as our lead secretary - Ms. Casola, for all that they did to help ensure that our school is clean and organized for the new school year.

Teacher & Bus Assignments

Please be sure to complete all of the required beginning of the year paperwork in Genesis by Tuesday night! Once you do this, your child's teacher and bus assignment will be "unlocked" in your Genesis Parent Portal. Ensuring that your child is equipped with this information prior to coming to school on Wednesday will help them to feel "in the know" and calm first day jitters!

Masks

As per Governor's orders, all staff and students MUST wear masks in the school setting. As weather permits, snack will be held outdoors. If it is indoors, masks will be removed for the 10 minute snack break. Masks do not have to be worn for outdoor physical activity (ie. recess, Physical Education).

Breakfast & Lunch:

ALL students are eligible to receive a FREE school breakfast and lunch each day this school year. If your child would like the school breakfast or lunch, they simply need to inform their teacher upon arrival each day.


If your child has a food allergy, you can visit this link for more information on how to set up a safe Maschio's school breakfast/lunch meal plan for your child.


Beginning September 8, 2021, post lunch snacks/treats can be purchased in the cafeteria. These treats (i.e. chips, ice cream, etc) are NOT FREE! Cash should be sent with your child if they intend to purchase OR you can place money on your child's SchoolBucks account. See this link for more info.


Breakfast will be served in the classrooms and lunch will be served in the cafeteria.

Best Buddies - New NES Program!

As we look to the new school year, we will launch a new opportunity for our students entering fourth grade... Best Buddies! The focus of this opportunity will be on service learning within our specialized programs for K-2 students. Best Buddies is set to occur once per week during a recess period. Depending upon the level of student interest, we may have to create a rotating schedule. Special thanks to Mrs. Evans, Mrs. Perez and Mr. Sciancalepore for sharing an overview of the Best Buddies program with our third graders at the end of June! We look forward to seeing friendships flourish through Best Buddies.
