Happy April
It is hard to believe that we have so little time left in the school year. We want the children to continue to work hard and be prepared for the next grade. The children have been working very hard to meet their goals. I am very proud of all their efforts. We are working hard to make sure that every single child will feel the pride in achieving success. We have some awesome children

Character Connection
This month’s pillar word is resilience which is the ability to bounce back during tough times. It’s important to build resilience early so that children know how to handle hard situations. As adults, we know that we will face adversity during our lives. Having the skills to overcome these obstacles is key. If you’d like to read more about resilience or how to help your child build these skills, you can check out this article.

From Ms. Raeker
Next month our 3rd and 4th grade students will complete the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) standardized tests. These tests measure how well students have mastered the education standards identified by the state. To help students prepare, this month’s counseling lessons will focus on test-taking strategies. The younger students will also be working on creating motivational posters and cards for the older students to encourage them when they take the tests.
Feel free to reach out by emailing sraeker@mvr3.k12.mo.us or call 636 271 1444 and ask for Ms. Raeker.
From the nurse
If your child has borrowed pants from the nurse's office, please be sure to get those items sent back to school as soon as possible!
MUSIC
Third and Fourth Grade did an amazing job on their performances in March. Kindergarten will have songs for Graduation in May. Students in Second, Third and Fourth Grades need to continue reviewing their music vocabulary words for the quiz the first week of May. Study guides can be found on our Google Classroom pages.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me through email at rfenelon@mvr3.k12.mo.us or through the ClassDojo Messenger.
Art
Fourth graders learned how to weave. They painted their loom (a plate), prepared it with warp (yarn), and wove into it. They are great! Fourth grade artists also completed ceiling tiles that will hang in the art room. in small groups they planned, submitted a proposal, and painted their tile.
All together we had a very creative March! Classes learned about ceramics, sculpture, and painting. Art show work is coming home soon and our artists are very excited to see what is next!
Looking to help out? We are in need of a few things in the art room:
Paper lunch bags, inexpensive paper plates (or leftover birthday ones), pony beads, and empty paper towel rolls. Anything is appreciated and we thank you for thinking of us!
Communication is key! I can be reached at cpatterson@mvr3.k12.mo.us or by calling the Nike office.
Library
In March we had a very successful spring book fair! Thank you for supporting the library. In March third and fourth grade students did animal research and participated in a program called March Mammal Madness. After doing the research, the students filled out a bracket for different animal battles. Now we have to wait to see what animals will win their battles.
PreK through second grade finished listening to all the Show Me Reader books and voted for their favorite book. The Nike winner is Scaredy Snacks by Terry Border. In April we will be reading examples of Caldecott winning books. The Caldecott Medal is an award given for outstanding illusrations. In April we will also be looking at examples of fairy tales and poetry.
PE
The year is winding down, but what that means is the weather is warming up! With that being said, please make sure your child has sunscreen with them if they burn easily as we will be having PE outside whenever weather permits. Also, please make sure your child wears PE appropriate footwear on their PE days, or pack a pair of shoes for PE.
3rd & 4th grade parents, our last intramural session will begin early May, be on the look out for the sign up sheets, and please have them turned in on time!
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to reach out and email me at dmissey@mvr3.k12.mo.us
Title Reading
Mrs. Hollstein's class practices reading skills daily focusing on the 5 components of reading. It is so important to read at home for 20 minutes 5 days a week. At the end of this month, we will have a big celebration for students who receive Title 1 services and are completing their daily reading. This month we are focusing on building your child's vocabulary. Vocabuarly is the students' knowledge of and memory for word meaning. There are 2 types of vocabulary: receptive and expressive. Receptive vocabulary is the words we understand when we read or spoken to us. Expressive vocabulary is the words we know well enough to use in speaking and writing.
Also, I look forward to seeing everyone for our STEAM/Writing on the walls night. Please stop by the Title 1 table.
