C.V.P.S School Events! By: Christin. N, Aidan. C, and Jaden. S
Have you ever wondered what school events are going on at C.V.P.S.? Well here it is!
We all have learning buddies in Ms. Giovanetti’s FDK class that we do many things with. We go on nature walks with them, we do activities together like find items on our walks, making paper turkeys and emojis, playing parachute and bean bag toss after we went on take me outside day, and finally, read with them. We had charities by the Homeless Heroes from Ms. Nissen’s grade 5 class and we also have charities from the Me to We team. The Me to We team collects milk bags and pop tabs. The Homeless Heroes collects food, clothes, and hygiene items. During the last couple of months, we have had multIple assemblies. One of our most exciting assemblies was our Terry Fox assembly, where we were given the 15-year banner of sponsoring in the Terry Fox Run. In the Remembrance Day assembly, we listened to our national anthem and had a moment of silence to honour the fallen soldiers who fought in the war. Our next assembly is on Friday, November 30, 2018.
Our school has been doing many things and we know we will do many more things! We hope you enjoyed reading our report on what we’ve been doing!
Music Makes HeART By: Chevonne, Naomi, and Kelly
Today we talk to you about art and music, and they are two powerful subjects in our lives.
In art, we did a parody of Starry Night. Some of us chose to do it on a christmas theme, others chose to do it on cats. Someone chose to do it on art supplies.
In music, we are learning how to play instruments. Two of us chose to play a bass clarinet, some are learning how to play the flute, and others are learning how to play the clarinet. Some notes that we learned are G, B, E, F, A, D and lots of other notes.
Another thing we are currently doing in art is free draw. During free draw we can draw whatever we like to draw, like a cat, a pineapple, or yourself. We had two tests in music this month. One was on Nov 9th, and the other was later in the month, and it was about naming notes.
This is what we have learned so far in the month of November in Music and Art.
The Grade ⅚ Scientists By: Ayanna and Alonzo
Matter,Oil Spills and Outer Space are the topics we’ve been learning about in science!!
In science the grade fives learned about the three states of matter solids, liquids and gasses. Along with the three states of matter the grade fives also learned about chemical and physical changes.
Next the grade fives learned about oil spills. During the lesson we did an amazing experiment to see if we could clean up the oil spill or not. The materials in the experiment that the class used were water and vegetable oil those were the main materials in the experiment. We also learned how affects the environment, how it spreads and how they happen.
Finally while we were learning about the three states of matter and oil spills the grade sixes learned about space. They learned about rock and gas planets, astronauts and space stations.
Make sure to find out about next months report about energy and more astronauts!
Mythical Math Learning By: Natalie & Xinran
Are you ready to read about some Mythical Math? Well, you’re in the right place! Keep reading to see what Ms Stuart’s class from September to November!!
In Ms Stuart’s class, the grade fives learned about five digit whole numbers, data management, decimals to the hundredths, and lastly, multiplication strings!
The grade sixes learned about 6-7 digit numbers, data management, decimals up to the thousandths and multiplication strings.
Both grades learned data management, how to show decimals, four 4s and multiplication strings. In data management, we both learned the mean, mode, median and range. We also learned how to find them as well. We all learned how to show decimals by using base ten blocks, different charts and sometimes using number lines. A game called four 4s is when we use four 4s and make numbers from 1-20. Multiplication strings is when we use some mental math to group things in pictures efficiently.
Some upcoming Math units are probability, time, multiplication, division, square roots and geometry. We might also review decimals again sooner in the year. Probability is when we tell or guess if something is going to happen, multiplication and division as review and we will add more digits to it, square roots is when a number can be divided by a number that is also the answer. We are starting patterning and Algebra right now and that is when we sort things and create patterns with shapes. We sort the items in Venn Diagrams or other diagrams. We also make patterns with shapes, objects or maybe living things.
Did you enjoy Mythical Math learning? If you want more, stay tuned and have a great day! Bye!!!
French in Gr.⅚ By: Felix J.
Did you know that Ontario is a bilingual province in Canada? We have to learn french starting in gr.4 and now some of us are in gr.5 and some of us are in gr.6. Our first was a Halloween reading test, where we have to read what to colour and what pictures to colour ,we place the coloured pictures on a page with after we cut the pictures out and then we draw extra pictures that it tells you to draw. Also we would use our reference sheets to find any french word(s) that we don’t know or we ask the teacher if the french word(s) aren’t in our reference sheets. Our second test was a la météo assignment which is a weather report. We would have to find cities that are in northern, eastern, southern, western and central part of Ontario and we have to plan a five day weather report or plan a field trip to a national park and include what you need to bring and what the weather will be.Our third test for this year is a play on Chat Angora, which is a detective and Madame Rat, which is a criminale which we are currently doing. Right now we are doing a package of work for the play. Even though french is hard for some of us, we still have to learn it since we are a bilingual province. We will come back next month, so watch out for our next newsletter.
It’s Literally Literacy! By: Ryan and Kavin
Literacy couldn't have got any more fun in portable 2!
The assignments and activities will help us learn so much that brain will explode full of learning!
First, one of the three best activities we do in literacy is a website called Flipgrid. Flipgrid is a website we use to improve our oral communication. One example of our flipgrid assignment is making connections.
Next, is the writing. We do many fun writing pieces that include various types of writing like paragraphs. An example of a type of a paragraph we’ve talked about is descriptive writing.
Then, we read for 30 minutes. We try to read harder and challenging books. Sometimes we read our read aloud book called Refugee.
This is it, you’ve seen what we’ve learned in literacy since September to November in P2! The fun doesn't end here! We are going to learn more soon.

Extremely Fun Gym/Health By: Matthew, Adam, Shahrinur
In September-November interesting things happened in Gym and Health.
At the beginning of the year in Gym we learned about soccer. After soccer we started to learn about volleyball and how to properly serve the ball. We also practiced to volley the ball and bump the ball. In October and half way through November we were learning about Cyberbullying and what does it mean to be Cyberbullied? Also what to do if you’re in a bad situation. For the grade 6’s they learned about communicating safely and more. They watched a documentary about bullying too. Near the end of November we started to learn about eating healthy foods in Health. In Gym we also started to pass the ball for European Handball and learned how to play European Handball. Obviously Gym and Health has been really fun from the start of the year to right now. We are looking forward to getting back to with more updates!
Attention Readers Get Ready For The Read of Your Life! 2 Shocking, Thrilling Reads in This Spooky Edition Of Grade 6 Book Reviews
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by: Ashwini
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is a great book if you like to read spine-thrilling books! This book would fall under the horror/thriller genre. This book was written by Ransom Riggs.
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is a scary book! It’s about 16 year old boy, Jacob, going to a mysterious island and he finds the ruins of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. There are still children living there. They are more than peculiar……. Almost like they are dangerous……
My favourite part of the book is when Emma, a peculiar child (she can do anything with air, she also has to wear heavy metal boots to keep her from floating into space!) thinks she can’t do anything, but in the end, fights monsters and wins!
If you like horror, thriller, scary, and mysterious, then you will like this book! There are scary cliff hangers and real pictures in the book. If you are more on the romantic, comedy, and historic side, then i’d better pass on this book.
Overall, I give this book 5 stars! There are also two other books too! (Hollow City, Part 2, and Library of Souls, Part 3) If you liked this series, I encourage you to check out the other books written by Ransom Riggs. In this series, this is a great book!
Famous Last Words By: Varsha
Social Studies by: Haidar
In class during the past month, we covered many topics, where we explored the Canadian map, discussed the Syrian refugee crisis and the different levels of the Canadian government.
In the Canadian map, we discussed and explored many topics like the ten provinces and their capitals, 3 territories, the great lakes and its surrounding islands.
In the Syrian refugee crisis many people died due to Bashar Al Assad, who started a civil war in Syria. This was an eye opening event for people around the world. Canada decided to allow 25000 affected people each year, who were forced to leave their houses.
We learnt in class that Canadian government consists of 3 levels known as federal, provincial/territorial and municipal. Federal government is responsible for defense, criminal law, transportation, money and banking. The provincial government is responsible for education, health, welfare and environment. The municipal government is responsible for water, waste, libraries, animal control and economic development.
The topics covered in class were very interesting and informative. My topic of interest was the crisis suffered by Syrian refugees. We searched online about many stories related to refugees and their experiences. Knowing about the Canadian government made us think that we are part of democratic state and here we are free to make our decisions.
