Pre-Academy Monthly Newsletter
February 2023 Edition
Dear APA Families,
We are seeing an increase in cell phone use and vapes in our school. Please talk to your children about the importance of following all school rules, policies, and procedures. It is imperative that we are all on the same page to create a safe learning environment for our 29th street campus cadets.
Please help us by reminding your children of the following information:
- All cell phones need to be turned off and in their lockers. Cell phones are not to be seen or used throughout the day. Any cadet that gets caught with a cell phone will be sent home for the day.
- No vapes are allowed on school property. Any cadet that gets caught with a vape will receive out of school suspension.
- Be respectful to all peers and adults.
- Please keep hands/feet/belongings to themselves.
- Cadets are given lockers and locks. Please remind your cadets to use them.
- Be on time to class.
- Be prepared everyday with a computer, charger, and writing utensil.
- Turn in assignments on time and check their Skyward daily. They have 90 minute blocks to complete their work.
- Wear the correct uniform: belt, socks, black dress shoes, pants, and uniform shirt.
Thank you for your help with this!
If you have questions about anything published in this newsletter, please email mmccullough@goapa.org or jnahlik@goapa.org.

COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS
All APA cadets in grades 6-12, as per our charter policy, are required to complete twenty-four (24) volunteer hours of community service per year. We will celebrate community service successes at the end of year awards day. APA strongly believes in “giving back” to others and to our community. Check out the graphic below for some community service ideas!
We also have a newer program called the Jet Fuel program, where students, grades 6-12, can help maintain the community garden and put together food boxes for the local community. Cadets can earn up to 2 hours per week of community service through the Jet Fuel program. Please email Mattie Walsh at mwalsh@goapa.org for more information!
Cadets will record their hours using a community service form via Google Forms. Cadets can ask their homeroom teachers for the community service form. Cadets can also ask their homeroom teacher how many hours they have recorded. Cadets will fill out their own forms based on their service hours for the specific events/service hours they worked. It will later be approved by administration.
