John Champe Knightly News
Week of August 21, 2022
IT IS ALMOST TIME!!!
We are back: all staff members returned home to Champe this week and we are feeling so good to be back together. Now, we just have a few more days of preparation before we get to welcome our Knights to the 2022-23 school year.
For students attending Camp Champe on August 23:
PLEASE remember to bring your Chromebook for your device swap. If you're new to LCPS, you'll receive your device then.
Campers, check out the flyer on the left below for The Armory's sale!

Attendance
Please note the start time for high schools is now 9:30am with dismissal at 4:18pm. Students entering late must have a valid ID, and any visitors to the school must have a valid ID presented at the school entrance to be scanned through the Raptor visitor screening process.
Buses
As a notice for the first couple of weeks of school, afternoon buses typically take up to an hour to arrive and be dismissed from Champe. If that time exceeds an hour, families will be notified by the school. Otherwise, there will be no notification of late buses if they leave the school prior to 5:20pm. We ask for your patience as we take extra precautions to ensure all buses arrive and students are on the correct buses home. Please encourage your student to check their afternoon bus number by the end of the first day of school. Typically, students ride a different number bus home than their morning bus. This will greatly expedite the dismissal process. Bus numbers can be found in ParentVue. If there is no bus number, please continue to check throughout next week. Bus numbers are generated by the LCPS Transportation Department, not the home school.
Lovely Luau
Please check out the flyer below for our exciting Luau Lunch on the second day of school, followed by a school tailgate for our first home football game of the season. We are hitting the ground running with a boost to our culture of excellence and Knightly spirit in all aspects of schooling. We want everybody participating and excited for the year ahead!

First Day of School Information
Beginning at 8 a.m. on Monday, August 15, please sign into ParentVUE to complete the Online Verification process as part of Loudoun County Public Schools’ First Day of School Information initiative. This process is required for all families to review and update important information about their students as we begin the 2022-23 school year, and must be completed no later than Friday, September 23. Once completed, you will be able to view student schedules and bus information in ParentVUE.
If you do not have a ParentVUE account, please contact the school of any of your students to request an Activation Letter. For more information about this Online Verification process, along with FAQs about the First Day of School, please visit: www.lcps.org/FirstDay.
School Nutrition
Students are able to purchase both breakfast and lunch at school. Breakfast starts at $2 and lunch at $3.15. You can click here to see the full price list, access the cafeteria payment portal to put money on your student's account, and check menus. Remember, the Titan payment portal is new, so you may need to create your account still; also, this is a separate account from the one you will use for school-based purchases. Click here to read more and access the free/reduced meal application.
PSAT
High school students who are planning to apply to the Academies during the 2023 winter admissions cycle must have a PSAT score. The PSAT will take place October 12; however, if a student is requesting testing accommodations, that request must be submitted to the College Board by August 24, 2022.
10 year anniversary sponsors
Have you had a chance to check with your family, business, or other community connections to become a sponsor of Champe's tenth anniversary year? Very soon, you'll be able to commit your level of sponsorship by donating via the SchoolCash online payment site. In the meantime, mark your calendar for the big celebration day Friday, September 30. If you wish to donate via cash or check, please make all checks out to John Champe High School, or simply drop by the school and request to speak with our Financial Technician. Your donations are tax deductible and we will provide you a donation letter.
We need support from our community to make this year a memorable one. Thank you for considering how you can do that; we appreciate you and your generosity!
Excellence Everywhere Spotlights
Soil and Water Conservation Poster Contest
Congratulations to Harini Prabhu, rising freshman, for winning first place in her grade category. Her poster entry for the "Healthy Soil, Healthy Life" will move on to the state competition and potentially the national competition after that. In addition to here, you can view all the winning posters on the Loudoun Soil and Water Conservation District website. Way to go, Harini! We can hardly wait to see more of your work over the next four years!
Champe Student at DC United Academy
Brice Hall, JCHS Class of 2026, is playing soccer for the DC United Academy. He spent a couple of weeks this summer playing soccer in Germany and will represent the USA in the National Futsal Tournament in Spain in September.
Would you like to contribute to our "Excellence Everywhere" section? We're looking to highlight achievements in careers (where are our alums and what are they doing now?), athletics, arts, etc. as we celebrate ten years of excellence from our John Champe Community. Have an update to share? Please complete this form to tell us more about the student(s).
Online Payments
LCPS has moved to a different online payment system this year. You can click here to go to SchoolCash to register or sign in. It is very important that you register, as you are only able to view items for purchase if you have registered. Additionally, the system itself is a little different in how it's formatted and how staff members arrange items to be set up for students and families to view. We appreciate your patience with us, but very soon you will be able to view items necessary for your student, athlete, or community contributions like the 10-year sponsorships or classwide donations.
Clinic
Medications: Loudoun County Public Schools requires a new provider/physician orders each school year for the medication or specialized care which your child receives at school. If your child will continue to need medication or specialized health care at school, you and your child’s licensed healthcare provider must complete and sign the proper form(s). Please note that parents may not amend the provider’s order for managing the child’s medical condition.
The required forms are available in the health office at your child’s school or online at www.lcps.org. Click on the “Families” tab and the forms will be found under Medication at School. The forms should be returned, along with the appropriate medication, in the original, pharmacy labelled container, the week before school starts to the Loudoun County Public School that your child will be attending. Please refer to the “Medication at School Guidelines” for further information regarding medication at school.
Vaccination updates: See the .pdf below for important updates to required vaccinations for the 2022-23 school year, per Virginia House Bill 1090. Of importance for high school is for rising seniors to receive a dose of the Meningococcal Vaccine prior to the start of school on August 25. If you have difficulty opening the .pdf, please ensure you're viewing this newsletter from a browser by clicking on the heading within the body of the email. It should launch a tab in your internet browser from which you can click on active .pdfs.
