Student Activities Conference - Oct. 1
Texas Tech is hosting a Student Activities Conference on October 1, 2022. It is a conference that will introduce the events to students as well as give helpful hints to be successful! It should start at 9:00 AM and finish by 1:30 PM. The schedule should be out soon, but students are not required to stay the whole day. Students and coaches can go to as many of the sessions as they would like.
Theatre, speech events, robotics, filmmaking, and UIL academic competitions will be discussed.
- Instructional Sessions are designed for beginning students, advanced students, coaches and academic coordinators. Lectures and demonstrations will be scheduled for all UIL academic contest areas.
- Conferences feature lectures and presentations by UIL contest directors, college professors and high school teachers. Sessions will include discussions on contest preparation, demonstrations, performances and contest administration. Students may choose from novice and advanced sessions in some academic areas and small-group sessions in specific UIL activities.
- Most sessions are intended to help students begin preparing for high school spring contests. Sessions applicable to coaches will also be offered in many contest areas. Mark your calendar and plan to attend one or more of these free conferences.
If interested, fill out the Google Form below. A coach/sponsor will reach out to students for additional information and details. Sign up for the conference ends September 21.

CTE Spotlight - Forensic Science
Mrs. Wuthrich and Mrs. Ring's Forensic Science students have been studying the importance and reliability of eyewitnesses in criminal investigation and why it's essential to always be observant. Eyewitness misidentification is the single greatest cause of wrongful convictions nationwide, but despite this fact, the court systems still rely on eyewitness statements heavily. Each year students in forensic science study the Innocence Project of Texas - an organization that seeks to address flaws in the criminal justice system by using forensic evidence to advocate for the innocent.
Did you know that Lubbock resident, Timothy Cole, was posthumously exonerated with the help of this organization in 2009? It remains a landmark case for our city and serves as a reminder that the purpose of forensic science is to help find truths using irrefutable scientific evidence and provide true justice. A statu in Cole's honor is located at 19th and University. More information can be found at www.innocencetexas.org.
Lubbock-Cooper Forensic Science students have raised over $2200 to date for this cause. Keep an eye on the upcoming newsletters for this year's student-led fundraiser for the Innocence Project!

Congratulations, Lauren!
