FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
2023-2024 Elementary Schedule Presentation
CSD's Enhanced Elementary Schedule was approved by our Board of School Directors at the Committee of the Whole meeting on April 25, 2023. This schedule change is effective beginning Thursday, August 24, 2023, the first day of the 2023-2024 school year.
An informational presentation for parents and guardians will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 25, 2023, in the William Tennent High School auditorium. This presentation will share the exciting improvements CSD is making to support our youngest learners, including:
- A better balance of academics, fun, and brain breaks throughout the school day
- A structured academic intervention period to provide students with mathematics and reading intervention (extension, rehearsal, remediation) based on their individual needs
- Dedicated time for community building (morning meeting, quiet time, and closing circle)
A shortened student day was accomplished by moving the start time from 8:45 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. This new schedule will impact the student's drop-off time, moving from 8:25 a.m. to 8:45 a.m.

We hope to see you at the information session!

FOOD SERVICE DEPARTMENT
New Online Payment System
Starting June 1, 2023, the Food Service Department will change online payment systems. As a result, we will no longer be using PayK12 after May 30, 2023. All funds remaining on Food Service accounts will then be transferred into the Schoolcafe.
To set up an account in Schoolcafe, you will need your child’s name (exactly how it is spelled in Skyward, including hyphens) and their student ID number. Please note that there is a fee of $2.25 for payments up to $100.00. Parents with more than one student in the district can put a payment on one student’s account and move money to another child or children in their family.
As a reminder, you can always send cash, check, or money order to school. Please write your child’s name and student ID on the check or envelope. Visit our website for information on Payment Options.

America Like Me
This past week, William Tennent’s America Like Me class enjoyed a trip to South Philadelphia to explore the distinct neighborhoods and share a cultural meal at the famous South Philly Barbacoa Restaurant. Throughout the year, students have been asked to consider what it means to be American today and how we can seek out the hidden stories of those around us to answer that question.
The class participated in a tortilla workshop with the renowned chef, Christina Martinez, learning how the tradition of making tortillas by hand is an important part of sharing Mexican culture in America. They then shared a meal with the restaurant workers and listened to their stories. Afterward, students went on a mural tour through the Italian Market, Center City, and Chinatown to see how Philadelphia’s vibrant and diverse community holds the answers to who we are.
Winning Streak
The William Tennent Boys Volleyball team was riding an eight-game winning streak as they entered the District One Tournament this week. On Tuesday, the #6-seeded Panthers were victorious at home against #11-seeded Souderton with a match score of 3-0, and last night, the Panthers avenged a mid-season loss by beating #3-seeded Bensalem at Bensalem 3-0.
With their win streak extended to ten games, William Tennent will face off against #2 seeded Pennridge on Tuesday, May 23rd at 7:00 PM at Pennridge High School. All tickets must be purchased online through the District One Hometown Ticketing Site.
McDonald Elementary School's Field Day
On Thursday, May 18th, McDonald Elementary School held its annual Field Day. The sun was shining, and the air was filled with laughter and cheers as the excited students gathered together. The event was filled with games, competitions, relay races, and, above all, fun.
The event kicked off in the morning with an opening ceremony led by a McDonald's music student playing the Star Spangled Banner for the entire crowd of students, staff, and volunteers. Then everyone went to participate in all relay races, games, and challenges.
McDonald Elementary School's Field Day was undoubtedly a success. It celebrated the spirit of competition and fostered a sense of unity, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.
Breaking Into Spanish Culture Fun
Students in the Intro to Spanish Culture Class at Klinger Middle School collaborated, problem-solved (a few restarts due to balloons popping) and had fun creating piñatas. Students celebrated their hard work with homemade beef and chicken pastelillos (empanadas) and opened their candy-filled piñatas.
William Tennent Memory Garden
Following their previous meeting to discuss the importance of preserving the environment according to the Islamic faith, the Muslim Student Association (MSA) Club planted seeds in the William Tennent Memory Garden for Michelle Caruso. Michelle was a former security guard at William Tennent, beloved by students and staff, and the garden was created in her honor in 2012. The MSA Club noticed the garden could use a little tender loving care and took the initiative to spruce it up. They will continue to respect and become one with nature by continuing to care for the flower garden to honor Ms. Caruso.
Klinger's Spring Chorus Concert
On Thursday, May 18th, Klinger Middle School held its spring chorus concert, and what a show it was. Great job to all the chorus singers and their director, Mr. Herstig for doing a wonderful job with the kids. Thank you to all families for supporting music in Centennial!
The Memory Project
For the fifth year, WTHS's National Art Honor Society members have participated in 'The Memory Project.' This is a nonprofit organization that invites art teachers and their students to create portraits for youth around the world who have faced substantial challenges, such as neglect, abuse, loss of parents, war and extreme poverty. This year, 12 WTHS members participated, and created beautiful portraits of children from Syria, as a message and reminder to them that we care and that they are not forgotten.
ATHLETE OF THE MONTH
MUSICIAN OF THE MONTH
SOCIAL EMOTIONAL & ACADEMIC LEARNING (SEAL)
Fostering Belonging, Building Career Ready Skills
This month, middle school students will participate in the final SEAL WIN lessons of the school year. Throughout the year, these lessons were dedicated to developing a sense of belonging and building PA Career Ready Skills. This month's lessons will focus on reflection and celebration, like this lesson about favorites, which helps students celebrate who they are and how much they have learned about one another, while practicing key skills such as self-reflection, communication, and perspective-taking. Thank you to our middle school teachers for taking on the challenge of these new lessons as part of the "Reimagining Middle School" project, and to our middle school SEAL Liaisons, Staci Berner and Staci Kincus, for supporting the design and implementation of these lessons each month.
