Milestones testing in April
An email was sent out to GLOBE families on Tuesday, April 11, regarding upcoming Milestones testing for grades 3–8. If you have not yet read the email, please click here to view.
ScienceLab visits GLOBE
On Friday, March 24, GLOBE partnered with the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany Atlanta to bring ScienceLab, a German company, to GLOBE. Students in Ms. Maier's 8th grade 7th period class were able to participate in experiments involving circuits and electricity. During the hands-on experiments, students created their own circuits, as well as looked at ways to conduct energy by using different materials. Students were able to test, observe, and analyze which circuit combinations were strongest, and which materials helped as a conductor or insulator to the energy.
We greatly appreciate our partnerships with local and foreign community partners, to bring such unique opportunities to our students. We look forward to collaborating with the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany Atlanta in the future.
GLOBE receives Cross Curricular Innovation Grant
The GLOBE Academy has received the Cross Curricular Innovation Grant from the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE). Through this grant, GLOBE Middle School teachers of Spanish, Mandarin, and French are creating cross-curricular resources integrating the Modern Language Standards, Advanced Placement Units and Themes, as well as the Georgia Standards of Excellence in content areas. Curricular resources will be shared with the GaDOE once finalized.
Teachers are currently working diligently to complete these Units and be leaders in curriculum creation and innovative thinking in our state in terms of World Language instruction. On March 31, Mme. Fulton had a culminating activity with Ms. Garvin and their 8th grade students. For the activity, students wrote their own poems that incorporated Beauty and Aesthetics (visual arts - graffiti, literature) and literary devices. Students discussed what is considered art and why? How do the ideals of beauty affect modern life? Students incorporated literary devices into their poems such as personification, onomatopoeia, similes, and metaphors and presented them to the class.
We are thankful for grants from our partners, like the GaDOE, that propel GLOBE instruction, student learning, and continue to raise the rigor for World Language instructional innovation in Georgia.
Contribute a poster for AANHPI Heritage Month!
The month of May is AANHPI (Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander) Heritage Month. A fun way to learn about AANHPI figures, contributions, and events.
The AANHPI organizers, Meeta Dama and Mila Konomos, are putting together a "ABCs of AANHPIs Halls of Fame'. Just like last year, families will be able to sign up to contribute a poster to display in the hallways of LC and UC.
Click here for information and to sign up. Posters are due by Wednesday, April 26.
Lower Campus notes
Morning Arrival
A friendly reminder that students are tardy right at 8:10am. In an effort to maintain as many instructional minutes as possible in our school day, we are going to tighten up/strictly enforce our tardy policy. Beginning this Friday, the administrator on ‘crosswalk duty’ each week will place a magnetic yellow flag on the last car already in the parking lot exactly at 8:10am. That flag will indicate the last car that staff will unload. Any car behind that vehicle will need to park and report to the front office inside LC to sign their child(ren) in as being tardy. We appreciate your partnership as we strive to begin our school day on time.
