French Class News
In Madame Dodgion's French I class, students celebrated La Chandeleur by making crepes and learning more about French culture. La Chandeleur is a French holiday that takes place on February 2. This day has many superstitions and traditions. Some of those are putting a coin in the middle of a crepe while flipping it, putting the first crepe made on the day of La Chandeleur on top of the wardrobe or kitchen cupboard, walking from their church to their home with a candle in their hand before it burns out, lighting a candle and seeing which side the wax drips down, and seeing whether it is sunny or rainy on the day of La Chandeleur. These superstitious acts are done to bring good luck in the new year, keep loved ones alive, and for spring to come. Learning about La Chandeleur is a fun way to see French traditions and fun superstitions, and I encourage people to experience the French culture and traditions that take place during this day.
