Library Methods On-Demand Course: Textual Literacy

- A course focusing on the first strand of the SD School Library Standards, Textual Literacy, in which we will focus on topics related to reading and engaging for academic and personal growth.

- A course focusing on the second strand of the SD School Library Standards, Information Literacy, in which we will focus on topics related to the research process from start to finish.

- Online via Canvas (with an In-Person Module in Pierre)
- June 26 - July 28
- 2 grad/undergrad credits OR 30 CECHs
- A course focusing on the third strand of the SD School Library Standards, Civic & Ethical Literacy, in which we will focus on topics related to the rights, responsibilities, and opportunities of living and learning in an interconnected world.

Collect + Connect Meet-Ups
- SDSL’s Collect + Connect Meet-ups are held monthly via Zoom and are an opportunity for librarians across the state to gather, discuss, share, and learn.
- School Library Collect + Connect: 1st Wednesday, 4:30pm CT/3:30pm MT
- Public Library Collect + Connect: 2nd Wednesday, 12:00pm CT/11:00pm MT
- Academic Library Collect + Connect: 3rd Thursday, 12:00pm CT/11:00pm MT
Book Study
- Online via Canvas
- March (actual dates TBA)
- Book: The Artful Read-Aloud by Rebecca Bellingham (purchase of the book is the participants' responsibility)
- For this book study, you'll read and complete journal entries for the book, "The Artful Read-Aloud." At the end of the study, we'll come together online for meaningful discussion.
- Earn 15 CECHs upon successful completion of the book study.

Collect + Connect Day Camp
- March 11 in Sioux Falls (location TBA)
- An in-person professional development and networking opportunity offered at no cost to school, public, and academic librarians and library staff across the state.
- The focus of the day camp will be programming, and participants will earn 6 CECHs.

- Annual recognition of school libraries that meet the characteristics of a 21st Century school library through its program, place, and professional.

Jump Start: Summer Reading Workshops
- On-line or In Person @ Various Locations
- February and March
- Prep for Summer Reading workshops held across South Dakota. Registration deadline is January 31, 2023.

Electronic Resources Courses
- Online via Canvas
- SDSL Electronic Resources for Teachers and Teacher-Librarians (June 12-23): An introduction to SDSL's free electronic resources for the classroom and school library.
- SDSL Electronic Resources for Librarians (October 16-27): An introduction to digital resources or databases provided by the South Dakota State Library. Designed for new library staff and any other SD library staff that would like to take a refresher course on the SDSL databases.
Library Training Institute 2023 (for public and combo librarians only)
- Northern State University, Aberdeen
- June 4-9
- Spend a week in the dorms and get to know your fellow library professionals from all over the state. This year's theme is Children's Services and Programming. For public and combo librarians only.
