Get it Right, & Keep it Tight! -Ruth Bader Ginsberg
It's time to tighten up structures that promote maximum student learning, engagement, and agency.
-Read Alouds should include focused standard work, Skill work, and Vocabulary work to lift the level of student's thinking. Use the Breakout rooms for partnerships to talk. Student engagement is dropping only using the chat feature and cold calls. We have to ramp up the engagement.
-Mini-Lessons in 10 minutes or less(Revised) (Active Engagement can still be 2-3 minutes in breakout rooms)
-Aggressively Monitor the Active Engagement Portions of the Mini-Lessons
-Allow Students to do independent work in Table Groups
-Shoot for at Least one small group per day in Reading and Writing Workshop (Being Realistic with the times we are in; You are permitted to do up to two groups, but communicate it with the parents on your schedule)
-If doing one group, shoot for 4 conferences, if doing two groups, shoot for 2 conferences
Conferring at it's BEST! Ms. Ebony Rose White demonstrates clear, concise Goal-Setting conferring with a student!
Mrs. Sequin Armelin sets her students up for How-To Informational Writing by allowing them to rehearse the process by DOING! I Know that writing is Long and Strong!

AVID Strategy of the Month: Two and Three Column Note Taking
- The more they will understand
- The more they will retain important information
- The more they will succeed
Note-taking skills are the foundation for student success in academic classes and study groups in content that is difficult or rigorous.
Learning to take thorough, usable, and reference-handy notes takes time, practice, and familiarity with note-taking strategies.
