MST Weekly Update
December 1, 2023

Good afternoon to all of our MST family members.
Last week, the freshmen class and National Honor Society worked together to collect food items and put together 20 Thanksgiving baskets which included turkeys and all food items needed for a Thanksgiving dinner. Hopefully you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family.
December has arrived, and along with it will come cold weather and possible stormy days. This week you will find information about snow days and remote days. You will also read stories about a new student organization forming at MST, Gear Up activities, a warm clothing drive, and opportunities for our students.
Enjoy, and have a wonderful weekend.
Preparing for Winter Weather Ahead
As we enter the winter months, there is always the possibility that we may have a snow day or a remote learning day. All snow/remote days are decided by the superintendent of schools and publicized on WMUR-TV and WZID (95.7). In addition, text messages are sent out through our notification system as long as we have your correct phone number on file. (If you are not getting a weekly text for this newsletter, we do not have your correct cell phone number on file. Please update your information by calling the school.)
If there is a snow day, school is cancelled, and we shift our schedule so that we come back to whichever day is missed (Blue or White). So, if the snow day was supposed to be a blue day, it will be a blue day when we come back no matter how many days are missed.
If a remote day is called, we will follow the schedule for that day (Blue or White). All students are assigned to a Google Classroom for every class and should know how to access them. We will follow the daily bell schedule and students are to sign into the class on time for attendance, assignments and meeting with the teachers. Teachers will be available online for at least 50% of the scheduled class time. If a student does not log in to Google Classroom, they will be marked absent from that class or from school.
If we have a delayed opening, students will report to Advisory by 9:50 AM and then report to their period B1 HS/Block 2 CTE class. Period A HS classes and Block 1 CTE classes do not meet on delayed opening days.
The SUP Club
The Substance Use Prevention (SUP) Club is a newly created student organization at the MST. The mission of the club is to promote healthy choices, to support students who want to live drug free, and to increase awareness that there is “No safe experience without a prescription”. Interested students should attend an informational meeting on Friday, December 8th during the lunch periods C1 and C2 in Student Support.
Gear Up Activities
On Thursday November, Gear Up hosted an on-site college acceptance day here at MST. Seniors from MST as well as West and Memorial were able to meet with representatives from 14 colleges, apply online and learn if they were accepted immediately.
On December 6th, Nashua Community College is hosting a Manufacturing Career Day where local manufacturing companies will be coming in to set up a table. GEAR UP is taking students interested in attending! Students will also be touring the college, not only on the Manufacturing side but also the automotive, aviation and microelectronics programs. This trip is open to any juniors and seniors.
To sign up, fill out this form as soon as possible and bring a permission slip to your GEAR UP Coordinator.
NHS Clothing Drive
The National Honor Society will be collecting winter clothing for those students who may be in need of warm items. All items of clothing can be dropped off in room B135.
Giving Thanks
Before breaking for the Thanksgiving holiday, business and marketing students hosted a customer appreciation event during all lunch periods in The Griffin's Den. Students were asked to share what they are most grateful for by writing the answer on their cup. The cup could then be brought to the counter for a complimentary fill up of cocoa or herbal tea. Gratefulness filled the store!
Apprenticeship Opportunities
Students in the NHJAG classes attended the ApprenticeshipNH Summit at NHTI in Concord. Students attended breakout sessions that included Pre-Apprenticeship training and WorkReady NH, learning about skill sets needed and what employers are looking for in an employee. While there, they attended the Apprenticeship NH Champion Awards ceremony where they had a chance to meet Governor Sununu. Ms. Stephen was in attendance as MST Career Counselor/Community Liaison.
Cosmetology In Action
Recently, the third-year cosmetology students attended the Annual Cosmetology In Action Expo. Over 200 High School Cosmetology students from all over New England were present. Students attended seminars on various subjects such as foiling, extensions, clipper cutting and makeup!
