October 17-21, 2022
Dear Walker Families and Caregivers,
Visit from the Springdale Fire Department for Fire Prevention & Family Project
The Springdale Fire Department will be visiting Walker Elementary on October 20th in an assembly to talk about Fire Safety. The Springdale Fire Department will kick off their annual draw your escape route contest. Each student is asked to create their escape route and include an outdoor meeting place. One winner will be selected to ride to school in a fire truck. Resource for Fire Safety can be found linked below.
Candy Drive
The Springdale Police Department participates in the city's Halloween Fest. It takes a lot of candy to make this a great event for the kids. If you can help supply a bag of candy that would be greatly appreciated. This year the Officers are having a little competition to see who can bring in the largest amount by weight. This gives the Officer and their schools bragging rights for the year. Hellstern Middle and Young elementary held this honor last year. More information about this event can be found below in the list of dates. Let's bring in some candy so Officer Robertson and Walker Elementary can win this year with the most pounds donated.

Family Game Night
It is so important to spend time as a family. Life gets extremely busy and sometimes we forget the importance of spending time as a family. “Family Game Night” is a great way to spend fun time together. It also has additional benefits to it. I recently read an article titled “Bringing Back Family Game Night” at www.pbs.org. Believe it or not, according to this article, playing games with your children can have a big impact on your child’s development. I have listed numerous reasons why “Family Game Night” can be beneficial according to the article:
1. Board games can help develop gross motor skills in children.
2. Games can actually lead to better grades. There are multiple cognitive skills that have to be used during games.
3. Games can help boost your child's problem-solving skills.
4. Playing games together can strengthen a family bond.
5. Games can make for good family fun.
It sounds like “Family Game Night” could make a great weekly addition to your weekend routine. I hope you are able to enjoy some “Family Game Night” fun with your family.
