5th Grade Parents:

Please find a preview copy of the GCPS Sense of Belonging and Inclusion Survey HERE. This survey will be administered during school hours to students in grades 5-12 in the window of November 6-17.

The purpose of the survey is to provide input on how GCPS is doing towards meeting our annual School Board Equity Goals established per policy JFHB/GBAA so that we can create an even better experience for all of our students. Any parent wishing to opt their child out of taking this survey may do so by sending an email or written letter to James B. Hopkins, Principal (jhopkins@glnd.k12.va.us).

We hope to see you for our Fall Family Night on Tuesday, October, 24th from 5-7! Wear your costumes for indoor trick-or-treating, free dinner, free Kona ice (for students), and literacy stations. Our Byrd Parent Group is setting up a fun, creepy courtyard! The book fair will be open for family shopping. Also, the Goochland Library will be at school to sign you up for a library card! If you are able, please send in a bag of candy for the event by 10/23.

If you would like to volunteer at the Fall Book Fair you will receive 10% off all purchases (no experience is necessary). Sign up to volunteer by clicking HERE! The Book Fair is a fundraiser for the school library, and makes up the majority of the library budget. The money is used to purchase books, maker space supplies, robotics, and to fund programs for students. Please support our school at the Book Fair!

The goal of Unity Day is to bring together youth, parents, educators, businesses, and community members across the nation to emphasize the message that bullying is not acceptable and that all students deserve to be safe in school, online, and in the community. Please join us on Thursday, October 26th by wearing orange to symbolize our unity as a school that is kind, inclusive, and accepting.

Applications to participate in the Byrd Bazaar are due at the end of October. Click HERE for a copy of the application.

• Tuesday October 24th: Fall Family Night 5-7.
• Tuesday November 7th: Remote learning day (school closed). Information from teachers will be provided closer to the date.
• Tuesday November 14th: Byrd Bazaar 5:30-7.
• Wednesday November 22nd- Friday November 24th: Thanksgiving holiday. School closed.

Please notify the office about transportation changes via email at: beseagles@glnd.k12.va.us.

If you have daily transportation needs, please make sure you provide changes at the beginning of each week for the entire week. This allows staff time to communicate all necessary changes and avoids confusion when a call is not received. We appreciate your support.

Parents who wish to chaperone a field trip or volunteer regularly in our school must submit to a background check every 2 years using the BIB portal.The process is completely electronic. If you are having problems with the system, contact Demetra Harris at dharris@glnd.k12.va.us.
