MLK Day of Service
January 16, 2023 is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and for BCISD students, it is also a school day. Traditionally, BCISD has held school on MLK day to educate students about Martin Luther King, Jr. and his belief that "life's most persistent and urgent question is, ‘what are you doing for others?'" The district’s goal is for "students to learn about the contributions and sacrifices of Martin Luther King, Jr. by participating in service projects on their campus and around the community."
Great things are planned to take place within our little community, and most importantly, our students are learning through MLK Jr.'s example that service and sacrifice make this world in which we live a better place!
Watch our Facebook page for pictures from the day!
Morning Drop Off Reminder!
Teachers and staff are not on duty until 7:15. If your child comes to school via car:
- the student should remain in the car until the 7:15 bell.
- the parent / guardian should not leave the child before the 7:15 bell.
Allowing students to stand at the doors without supervision presents opportunities for conflict and injury. Thank you for your cooperation!
Student ID Badges
Students need their ID badges each day at school! Please help us!
If your child changes out his/her backpack, please be sure to move the badge too!
If your child is missing this badge, teachers and office staff are working to replace lost badges. Please help your child keep up with his/her badge! We appreciate your help!

Calling All Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students)
Shady Grove Elementary is starting up a Watch D.O.G.S. program!
Purpose
WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) is a family and community engagement educational initiative. There are two primary goals of the WATCH D.O.G.S. program:
1. To provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important.
2. To provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security and reduce bullying.
To learn more about the Watch D.O.G.S. program, go to https://dadsofgreatstudents.com/ .
If you are interested in being a part of this program, please email Mendy Barrow at mkbarrow@burnetcisd.net or call 512.756.2126 and let us know! As we kickoff this new program, we are hoping to begin by getting dads in the mornings at 7:15am-7:45am, lunch times (11:00am-1:15pm), and/or on Fridays for the Ticket Store.
We are so excited about the positive impact this program can have on our school!
ADA - STRIVE for 95, but 98 is GRRRRRRREAT!
You've started the 2nd semester off strong! Our campus hit 95.38% ADA last week!
ADA stands for Average Daily Attendance. Average Daily Attendance is defined as the total days of student attendance divided by the total days of instruction. Check out SGE's ADA trends in the chart above.
We're going to "STRIVE FOR 95!" while also knowing that "98 IS Great!" We recognize that illnesses and events take place that necesitate absences, however, we do encourage every student to be in school every day he/she is able. Let's work for 98%!
