Ackerman Center Research Assistant Instrumental in French Senate Recognizing the 1915 Assyrian Genocide
Ackerman Center graduate research assistant Sabri Atman, who is the president of the Seyfo Center, traveled to Paris and was present in the French Parliament for the historic vote on February 8 to approve the "Assyrian/Chaldean Genocide Bill" drafted by French Senators Valérie Boyer and Bruno Retailleau . Altman remarked, "The decision that has just been taken is historic and deserves a standing ovation. No doubt our people and institutions living in France have gone to great lengths to achieve this. This historic moment is dedicated to them. I heartily congratulate them and all the French senators who supported the bill. The struggle will continue!"
Between 1914 and 1918, under the Ottoman Empire's rule, hundreds of thousands of Assyrians were massacred in the context of the Armenian Genocide. Learn more about the Assyrian Genocide and its recognition by France by clicking here or on the above image of Mr. Altman with Senator Valérie Boyer.
