Level-Up Summer Camp at VISD!
So, why Summer Camp and not Summer School? Easy, summer school is often perceived as a punishment for students who don't understand the content during the year, so they have to go in the summer too. Summer Camp is a fun-packed, 25-day summer program where students strengthen their reading and math skills and participate in enrichment courses.
Last year over 900 students participated, and we hope to have a few more this year. Half of the Camp enrollment is made of students that struggle; the other half is open enrollment so that all PK-5th grade students have the opportunity to attend. Academics during Camp focuses on Tier 1 math and reading instruction. The goal is to strengthen students' on-level skills so that they are ready to learn the next school year. The other 3 hours of the day focus on enrichment courses that expose students from PK-5th grade to their possible &.
Camp is made possible through a legislated funding program called ADSY which makes it possible to collect ADA during Camp and through a grant. Both are a huge celebration because collecting average daily attendance allowed the district to increase summer pay in last year's compensation plan. Providing enrichment courses during the summer to students helps students and staff rediscover the joy of learning.

I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University. This is my 33rd year of teaching. I have taught kindergarten, first, second, and fifth grades at four different schools, with over half of those years right here at DeLeon. My husband and I have a son and a daughter who both attended DeLeon. We have three dogs in our home as well as four cows at our property in Fannin. I enjoy doing things outdoors like checking on (spoiling) our tiny herd, driving around on the RTV with the humans and dogs (also spoiled), or going to Rockport. I really love cooking and trying new things, like creating charcuterie boards. And, DeLeon Dragons rock!

I graduated from the University of Houston-Victoria with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management. After several years working in the public business sector, I followed my heart and returned to school to obtain my teaching certification through Region III’s Alternative Certification Program. I have been teaching now for 22 years. I spent one year in Edna teaching 4th Grade science and math, and the last 21 years have been spent here at Deleon teaching 5th grade. I am the mother of four terrific children. My oldest sons have graduated from college, my third son is a freshman at Texas A&M University, and my only daughter is a sophomore at East High School. Most of my life outside of school has been, and still is, following my children to all their sporting events and cheering them on from the stands. I like to hunt and fish with my family when I have free time. I also enjoy cranking up country music and painting scenic pictures while peacefully home alone.

I was born and raised in Victoria, TX. I've worked for VISD for 12 years. I have worked with Pre-K-5th, Special Education, and P.E. I absolutely love what I do. I enjoy coaching, teaching, and watching our students grow and achieve their goals throughout the year.
My husband, Roger, and I will celebrate our 11th wedding anniversary this March. We have two beautiful children. Esme, who is our oldest, is six years old, and she is also a DeLeon Dragon. I love being able to be there for her education and learning experiences. We also have a 1-year-old son, Tristan, who loves to keep mama on her toes at home.
My favorite sports are Softball and Football. I played softball for about 13 years as a pitcher and 3rd baseman. I'm a Dallas Cowboys fan. I also love to dance, laugh, and enjoy every moment I am given with my beautiful family and wonderful friends.

I grew up in a small town called Yorktown. I left there to attend college at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. I graduated with a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology. This is my 10th year in education. My first three years of teaching were spent in high school teaching history and coaching volleyball, basketball, softball, and track. I decided that high school just wasn't for me, and I wanted to return to what I went to school for, which was teaching PE. I saw the job opening here at DeLeon, and something told me to go for it, and I'm glad I did because this has been the place for me for the past eight years. I recently became a dog mom to a puppy named Bailey, and I love spending time with her after work. In my spare time, I love to go visit my family in Yorktown and play with my two nephews. My hobbies include reading, watching softball on tv, and napping. I love my DeLeon family and love being a Dragon. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
