Principal's Message
Good afternoon Canby High School Students and Families!
It has been a special week at Canby High School. We kicked off Winter Spirit Week with a Tuesday assembly where we honored Athletic and Activities Bus Driver Mr. Jim Barr with the Canby Education Foundation Hero Award. Mr. Barr drives the bus for the majority of our trips and goes above and beyond to support our students. It was wonderful to see the students cheer for this unsung hero.
Tuesday afternoon we had our first Unified Basketball game that pairs intellectually disabled students with partner students. There are no words to describe the joy of watching our student athletes excel on the court. The atmosphere at the game exemplified our amazing student and community support. We are truly #canbyproud.
Our dancers continue their success with 4 seniors being named to the All State Dance Team. Congratulations to dancers Ainsley Lemuz, Claire Baker, Noreth Palangan, and Marissa VanHoose and trombonist Zachery Woodruff. Zac just completed his own all state performance. Our award winning Equestrian Team begins its season soon. See the date of the meets below. Our wrestlers continue to pin the competition. They are undefeated in both dual meets and tournaments and have 19 wrestlers ranked in the top 20 in state. Our swim team continues to make a splash. They competed against 15 other schools at the Rumbaugh Invitational in Corvallis. The Canby Women finished 2nd and the Men’s team finished 4th.
Our swim team is in action tonight at Pack the Pool as our Winter Spirit Week continues. Pack the Gym is tomorrow with both Women’s and Men’s basketball taking on Putnam. Please come join us for the festivities and fun. Spirit Week ends Saturday with our Winter Semi-Formal Dance.
We are looking forward to seeing you at conferences on February 1st. Please see below for more information, and watch for an email from your child’s teachers if you wish to sign up for a Zoom conference.
Have a wonderful week!
Best,
Cari Sloan

Forecasting Information
Forecasting for students is the first week of February. This is the process where we build next year’s schedule based on student needs and requests. It is important for families to work with their students on their course choices. The more accurate the information, the more likely students will get the class choices they request. The schedule will also be more balanced and serve our students’ needs more fully. This process is essential, and we look forward to partnering with students, staff, and families in order to build the best schedule for next year. Please watch for more information to come.

Inclement Weather
As the temperatures get colder, it’s time to start preparing for winter weather! If the weather is severe enough to cancel school, the first day of inclement weather will be a snow day for all! Any inclement weather day thereafter will be an online learning day. Elementary school families, this means you may see iPads come home with your students if questionable weather is forecasted.
In the event of an online learning day, Canby High School will begin at 8:40 a.m. and all other schools will begin at 9:30 a.m. Students should watch for Zoom links from their teachers. If students have trouble connecting or need help, they should reach out to their teacher. Canby School District strives to make the most of this valuable educational time, but please know that students will not be penalized if they are unable to connect.
To make sure you’re set to receive information about school delays, or closures, and online learning days, please subscribe to Canby School District on FlashAlert. Now is also a good time to update your text preferences online by listing your phone number.
For more information, please see our inclement weather page.

Attendance at CHS
To ensure the accuracy and efficiency of our attendance process, please remember the following guidelines:
If your student needs to leave class for an appointment or because they are sick, inform the attendance office 30 MINUTES PRIOR to leave time. This will help us ensure that your student receives a note to leave class in a timely manner. Students will not be excused without a note.
Pre-Excused Absence: For any anticipated absence that will be more than three days, students are expected to pick up a Pre-Excused Absence Form from Jessie Munoz at the Attendance Office.
To report an absence, call Jessie Munoz at our attendance line at 503-263-7210 or email chs-attendance@canby.k12.or.us.
Students have 48 hours to have unexcused absences excused. Students may lose the opportunity to make up work for credit due to unexcused absences. Please report an absence as soon as possible.
Remember that attendance matters and students who attend class regularly are more likely to stay on track, graduate on time, learn deeply, and get the most from their high school experience.
