Message From Principal Appiah-McNulty:
While the weather has been unpredictable, March is certainly here and we all look forward to having a beautiful Spring! So, here’s to Springing forward in the very best way as we enjoy the time we have left this school year.
In keeping this bulletin short, we want to take a moment and share with you our celebrations thus far. Early on, we shared that our RMS students took the NWEA MAP Assessment (second round) during last January and February. Based on our students’ Fall results, our team worked hard with students to review where they are in their academic skills and set goals for where they want to be. We wanted to share with you the outcomes of our students’ Winter MAPS assessment and couldn’t be prouder of our Senators and our team. What is even more amazing is that MAPS is comparing the results our students had to pre pandemic results of students across the nation, which does not account for the known learning loss felt across the country these last few years. The data can be reviewed on the bottom of this newsletter and the analysis is also shared below.
RMS Winter MAPS Recap:
In a deeper analysis, we had about 62% of students meet or exceed their expected learning growth (data can be seen under Growth Evaluated Against - Student Norms Section).
Achievement Percentile in all grade levels increased when compared to pre pandemic results at each grade across the country (this can be viewed by looking at the Fall 2022 Achievement Percentile to Winter 2022 Achievement Percentile). With exception of two instances, the Achievement Percentile growth ranges across from 9th -14th percentile - in other words our grade-levels were achieving significantly ahead of other grade-level results across the country (example 6th grade reading scored better than 55 schools out of a 100 in Fall, but by Winter results, our 6th graders scored better than 64 schools out of a 100).
RMS School Conditional Growth Percentile is very impressive (again if we take 100 schools across the nation, the percentile rank would tell us where our school fell in those 100 schools)! Aside from two instances of 85th and 86th percentile (which still puts us above 85 and 86 percent of all schools in the nation, the rest of the data showed us that our students are learning at a rate higher than 95% to 99% of all schools in the nation before the pandemic!
Lastly, please look at your student’s individual growth data and see how they are progressing. If you did not receive your student’s NWEA MAP scores, please contact either their Math or Language teachers and they will send you a copy.
As you can see, there are definitely some celebrations. Aside from these interim assessments, we are beginning to see a correlation between the instruction provided in the classroom and student progress when they take their monthly common formative assessments. We also want to take a moment to share how awesome the RMS Black History Celebration was last month! The RMS Mentors with the support of Ms. Jackson-DeLoach did a great job putting on this celebration. Along with the student talent there was also a dynamic art show by Ms. Courtney Ford’s Art students. During this event, Ms. Forrest was also honored as she was one of the first Female African American Cheerleader on the Razorbacks Cheer Team.
Lastly, take a look at our RMS Math Challenge winners! We could not be any prouder as the students worked hard, and also were challenged to the highest capability. On Thursday of this week, we are celebrating ALL of our students for the amazing work they have been doing this year. Each time we have asked for them to step up, they have. We hope they enjoy the celebrations we have prepared for them as they head into Spring Break!
Way To Go, Senators!!
Thank you, Ms. Meadows for organizing this challenge and shouting out the students!!!
