Principal's Message
Good afternoon Canby High School Students and Families!
It has been another busy week of activities at CHS. This week we celebrated Kindness Week where students were encouraged to “reach out to a friend,” “give compliments,” and “make new friends” along with a variety of activities such as decorating cookies together and making friendship bracelets. It is heartening to see our students lean in to the message of kindness.
Our students inspire me daily with their many talents and skills and their curiosity and imagination. It is the highlight of my days to spend time with them in classes. Our students are successful in so many ways--inside and out of the classroom. This last week, our band musicians won the Northwest Oregon Conference title and qualified for the state competition, our OHSET athletes qualified for a plethora of state events, and our state bound choir entertained us in the lobby. We also enjoyed the dance last Saturday sponsored by MEChA. The atmosphere was electric, and students and staff enjoyed the music.
Tomorrow, we look forward to an assembly to honor our winter athletes. Next week is our Art Show in the FAC and our Talent Show on Wednesday evening as well as Alumni Choir Concerts. I look forward to these events showcasing our students’ abilities.
Have a wonderful week!
Best,
Cari Sloan

Important Information
Curriculum Renewal Open House
As we prepare to adopt new K-12 Health and 9-12 World Languages curricula, we invite families to an open house. Come learn about our curriculum renewal process, view potential instructional resources, and have the opportunity to ask questions about health and world language instruction in Canby. For those who wish to learn more about Oregon health and/or world languages standards ahead of the event, click the links to preview. We will hold two identical open houses at Ackerman Library from 5:30-7 p.m. on April 26 and May 2. Drop in at any time.
Water Testing
Canby School District has completed its first cycle of lead and copper water testing, and all fixtures came in under the state requirement of 15 parts per million. We collected samples from Ackerman, the district office and maintenance shop, Baker Prairie Middle School, and Canby High School. All fixtures were tested as long as a student could cup their hands under it to collect water.
Those interested can view the reports here: HASS Healthy and Safe School Reports.
Testing will take place in the 2023-2024 year for the remaining schools: Carus, Eccles, Knight, Lee, Ninety-One, and Trost.
For questions, please reach out to Shawna Grant, District Operation Specialists with Facilities, at sgrant@canby.k12.or.us or 503-266-0018 xt. 3920.

Attendance at CHS
To ensure the accuracy and efficiency of our attendance process, please remember the following guidelines:
If your student needs to leave class for an appointment or because they are sick, inform the attendance office 30 MINUTES PRIOR to leave time. This will help us ensure that your student receives a note to leave class in a timely manner. Students will not be excused without a note.
Pre-Excused Absence: For any anticipated absence that will be more than three days, students are expected to pick up a Pre-Excused Absence Form from Jessie Munoz at the Attendance Office.
To report an absence, call Jessie Munoz at our attendance line at 503-263-7210 or email chs-attendance@canby.k12.or.us.
Students have 48 hours to have unexcused absences excused. Students may lose the opportunity to make up work for credit due to unexcused absences. Please report an absence as soon as possible.
Remember that attendance matters and students who attend class regularly are more likely to stay on track, graduate on time, learn deeply, and get the most from their high school experience.
