Interesting Healthcare Facts:

• Health care & Social Assistance sector is project to gain 2,354 additional jobs over the next decade, which is a 7.7% increase.

• Home Health Care Service is expected to have the largest job growth.

• 82% of the jobs in Health Care & Social Assistance jobs are held by women. However, there are many great non-traditional Health Care careers for men as well.

Career Exploration - Virtual Career Tours - Video Publishing Portal - Mayo Clinic introduce students to Mayo Clinic professionals in their work environment without leaving the classroom or home. Each Virtual Career Tour video is 25-minutes in length. Find out what a typical day is like, see advanced technology in action and learn what it takes to become a health care professional. In addition, students have the opportunity to connect LIVE for 15 minutes with a professional to ask additional career questions!

Are you a graduating senior this year who is interested in healthcare? Take a look at the programs offered through Mayo below! Click on the links to find out more about each program and how to apply.

Tuition Free programs are covered by the Workforce Development Scholarship which is to help support the staffing need at Mayo Clinic. These programs are:

Phlebotomy- 9 weeks, high school diploma, 2.0 GPA

Pharmacy Technician- 20 weeks, high school diploma, must be 18 by start of program

Clinical Neurophysiology Technology- 2 years, high school diploma, complete college level courses in English, communication, algebra by time of application

Histology- 9 month, requires at least an associate degree or pathway through RCTC.

Programs offering a stipend of $3500:

Phlebotomy- $3500 to be paid over the 9 weeks

Pharmacy Technician- $3500 to be paid over the last 8 weeks (first 12 weeks are online)

Programs for high school graduates:

Phlebotomy

Pharmacy Technician

Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist

Paramedic- Requires EMT certification by start of program

Clinical Neurophysiology Technology- complete college level courses in English, communication, algebra by time of application

SCRUBS Camp is an opportunity for high school students to explore health science professions through engaging hands on activities. Health care science careers that will be featured include alternative health, dentistry, EMT, medical lab, nursing, nutrition/wellness, pharmacology, physical therapy, psychology, surgery, regenerative medicine and more.

SCRUBS Camp 2023 will be held on June 20, 21, and 22. More information will be sent to your school this spring regarding SCRUBS Camp 2023.

Before the Interview:

• Research the company - Make sure you do your homework before your interview by researching the company through their website, LinkedIn, social media and your network of friend, family and acquaintances. Some ideas on what to research with include the company's mission or branding statement, products/services, company values and community involvement.
• Get Organized - Develop a schedule for yourself for the day of the interview. What time should you start getting ready in order to arrive on time? Make sure you know the directions and location of your interview. Arrange how you will get to your interview. Bring copies of your resume and a list of your references.
• Plan your introduction - Practice you hand shake with someone so you don't feel awkward during the interview. How will you introduce yourself? An elevator pitch is a great way to introduce yourself. Don't forget to practice your introduction.
• Dress for Success - General rule is to dress one step above what you would wear to the job. CareerWise offers some additional tips.
• Practice Practice! Practice interview questions with a family member or friend. Here is a list of common interview questions that will help you get started. Mock interview opportunities are another great way to prepare.
• Present your best self - Positive self-talk before your interview will help you feel confident. Think of at least 3-4 positive things about you! Be courtesy and friendly to everyone you meet going to your interview. Remember to turn off or silence your phone for the interview.

During the Interview

• Sell yourself and your skills! - We all have hundreds of skills so don't forget to sell the ones that you can offer to the employer. Click here for more on identifying your skills.
• Non-verbal communication - Be aware of your body language and good eye contact during your interview.
• Do you have any questions? - If any employer asks you this, you should have at least one question! This shows that you have spent time thinking about the job and have interest in working there.
• Thank the interviewer for his/her time

After the interview:

• Send a follow thank you letter, email or card to the interviewer(s). This allows you another chance not only to thank the employer but summarize why you are the best person for the job. Sending a thank you email/letter/card after the interview a great way to stand out from your competition.
• Follow up with your references regarding your interview
