What happens at Swansfield Library? All fifth graders may construct their own teams and create team names on our white boards. This is simply to help kids know who is interested in making a team. When 5 kids form a team and write on the library white boards this is not their official registration. Their adult coach registers them ONLINE via hclibrary.org/battleofthebooks. Please see below for specifics.

Fans, friends, teachers and parents fill the bleachers! The teams are comprised of fifth grade students who live in Howard County. Team members have each read 15 books worked with their coach for months to prepare for the big night.
FYI for Parents of Fourth Graders: Next year will be your fifth grader's chance to join in the Battle of Books fun. Students independently form their own teams when they come to the Swansfield Library. A white board is kept for kids to write in their names and team name. Many changes and adjustments are made throughout September and October. The final official registration is via the Howard County Public Library in November.
Teams always need an adult coach. The coach can be a parent, relative, trusted family friend, scout leader, church group director....someone the family trusts and knows. Join the fun. Your kids will ask you--please say YES!
