An e-newsletter from Mounds View Public Schools

December 21, 2023
Winter break
As a reminder, there will be no school Friday, December 22, through Monday, January 1. We look forward to welcoming students back to school on Tuesday, January 2. We hope our students, staff and families have a relaxing and fulfilling winter break.
Limited open enrollment for 2024-25
At its December 12 meeting, the School Board passed a resolution opening enrollment to non-residents on a limited basis in grades K-5 for the 2024-25 school year. Applications are due by January 15, 2024. Learn more here.
Mounds View Public Schools continues to enroll more than 80% of its resident students, yet recent kindergarten enrollment has been smaller than the size of the graduating classes. This suggests that a smaller-sized enrollment bubble will continue to move through the grades each year. At the same time, Mounds View’s reputation as a Top 10 district continues to attract interest from non-resident families. Mounds View can meet a demand as well as address future declining enrollment by accepting non-resident students in grades and schools where their enrollment doesn’t negatively impact classroom sizes.

The program has saved students more than $4.2 million in college credit costs. Including early college opportunities, 98% of high school students took rigorous courses during their time in high school.

Snow days: Five things to know
Here are five things to remember about weather-related cancellations this year:
- If winter weather conditions force school closures this year, there will be no instruction held on the affected day unless otherwise noted.
Families will not receive a “We’ll be open tomorrow” message during wintery weather evenings. Always assume schools will remain in session, until you hear or see differently from Mounds View Public Schools.
Within 20 minutes of a decision to close schools, families will receive text, voicemail and email messages. Make sure your contact information is current in ParentVUE. Instructions can be found here.
Want your student to also receive an alert? Parents can add their student’s cell phone for emergency text alerts in ParentVUE. Here’s how.
If you've blocked ANY previous text messages from us in the past, you won't receive any emergency alerts. To unblock your cell phone, contact your school's front office.
The decision to close schools is a difficult one to make, and we realize that it significantly impacts all of our families. To learn more about the criteria for school closures, visit here.
