A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
KUDOS
School District of Omro is a 2023 Recipient of the COPS Office School Violence Prevention Program grant
The School District of Omro is honored and excited to announce they are being awarded $500,000 as part of the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Office School Violence Prevention Program (SVPP) grant. Safe and Orderly Schools is a Core Area monitored within the District’s Continuous Improvement Plan. With alignment to providing Safe and Orderly Schools, administrators in the district submitted their grant application during the 2022-2023 school year, outlining changes that would have a positive impact on school safety in Omro. The application included action steps such as installing doors to compartmentalize our buildings along with updating the keying system for doors throughout the district. The School District of Omro feels fortunate to be one of the 206 selected applications from the 1,022 submitted to the COPS office. While applications were selected from across the country, Omro was one of a select few to receive the full $500,000, which is the largest grant awarded of the eight recipients in the state of Wisconsin.
The District anticipates beginning the project during the current school year, and looks forward to
enhancing safety in the buildings for all students, staff, and community members.

Culinary Arts Students Create Their Own Appetizers
Students in Mrs. Morse's Culinary Arts class recently spent time in the Foods Lab writing their own recipes for an appetizer. After learning about how to identify the 5 parts of a recipe and annotating a recipe, they were challenged to write their own. Students had to use what ingredients were available and through trial and error, created an appetizer recipe that will be a part of a class cookbook.

Work Permits Are Available ONLINE ONLY
As you may have heard, the Department of Workforce Development's Equal Rights Division has developed a new online work permit application tool. The Division carefully considered the lessons of the past few years, when pandemic restrictions made it nearly impossible for some minors to obtain work permits and decided to pursue an online application that would be available to the parents of minors 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from any computer, tablet, smartphone, or similar device. The application improves accessibility for minors who live in rural or underserved areas and eliminates the difficult logistics involved in working parents having to take off work to make a trip to a work permit office.
The application is live now. A parent can access the site using these instructions. Payment is made directly to the department through the application, using a credit or debit card or by ACH direct withdrawal. Once the permit application process is complete, the Department mails a paper copy of the permit directly to the employer.
In addition, we have reorganized our employment of minors web pages. The information you need is linked at the bottom of this page, including a guide to hazardous and prohibited work, the hours and times of day restrictions for minors, and links to the appropriate statutes and codes.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us by email at workpermits@dwd.wisconsin.gov.
Sincerely,
Matthew White (pronouns: he/his)
