Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to our February newsletter. I would like to welcome you all back to the 2024 school year. Each month we prepare a newsletter which provides some valuable information and also highlights the wonderful things happening at Liverpool PS.
2024 Classes
This year we began the school year by placing students into new grade holding classes from day 1 of Term 1 which ensured that teaching and learning started from the first day students returned to school. Our students have come back demonstrating they are ready for a successful year of learning.
As mentioned in previous communications our class structures are based on the number of students leaving and enrolling at Liverpool Public School. This process has involved contacting many families who have not returned from holidays or have failed to present to school. During this process, we must ensure we have accurate enrolment numbers to form classes.
From today we have officially formed 25 classes and have had minimal student movement. These minor student movements will not impact on the learning of any student as all teachers are following similar teaching and learning programs.
Staff have spent considerable time ensuring classes best suit the needs of all students and took into consideration each student’s learning and social needs. Thank you for your patience and understanding with this process.

School Uniform Expectations
Well done to all our students in the correct uniform including a school hat and the correct shoes. From day one we have noticed that our students are in the correct school uniform and look amazing. It is an expectation that students are in full school uniform every day. Uniforms will be monitored daily and classroom teachers will be making contact with you if your child is out of uniform.
To ensure students know which uniform to wear daily, we have made a decision to avoid confusion that students are to wear their blue school polo shirt every Monday to Thursday and white polo shirt each Friday as their sports uniform. The students will be involved in a set sport program with an external company called SportPro during Term 1 and 2 on Tuesday or Wednesday and must wear their school uniform.
Please remember that we have a second-hand uniform stall every Thursday afternoon from 2:15pm to 2:45pm in the courtyard at the back of the school hall.
School Hours
Our school bell rings daily at 8:55am in the morning. Please ensure your child is at school on time ready for learning and a successful day. School finishes at 3pm and this is when the school gates will be open for parents and carers to collect their child.
Meet the Teacher BBQ
On Wednesday 21 February we will be holding our annual ‘Meet the Teacher BBQ’. There will be three session times available which is great chance to meet your child's teacher. You only need to attend one session for each child. The session times are as follows:
- Session 1: 3:15pm to 3:45pm
- Session 2: 3:50pm to 4:20pm
- Session 3: 4:25pm to 4:55pm
Meet the Teacher sessions offer parents and carers a firsthand understanding of stage routines and curriculum, enabling them to actively support their child's education. This direct interaction enhances communication, addressing any concerns and aligning expectations. It empowers parents to actively engage in their child's learning journey, promoting a collaborative approach between educators and families.
We will also have a BBQ available on the evening. Beef, vegetarian and halal sausages will be available. We hope to see you there!
Supervision - Before and After School Care
Just a reminder that students should not be dropped off before 8:30am in the morning unless a parent/carer is waiting with their child. Students are supervised from 8:30am when teachers are on duty, prior to this they are unsupervised and are the responsibility of parents/carers prior to 8:30am.
School finishes at 3pm daily and students should be picked up as close as possible to this time. If you are running late please contact the school to notify us. We do understand that at times running late is unavoidable, however we are very fortunate to have the Liverpool YMCA Before and After School Care service on premises to assist our families.
Many of our parents and carers use the YMCA service for before and after school care each day. Please ensure to use this service if you require supervision for your child/ren in a safe and fun environment.
Student Use of Digital Devices and Online Services Procedure
Just a reminder that all NSW Department of Education schools have a 'Student Use of Digital Devices and Online Services Procedure' which was implemented in 2020. This procedure guides student use of digital devices and online services at our school which includes Mobile phones, SMART devices, SMART watches, Cameras etc.
Students are not permitted to bring mobile phones or SMART devices to school unless they have permission from their parent/carer and approval by the principal.
If your child needs to carry a mobile phone to school for safety reasons, they need to be switched off once they enter the school grounds from 8:30am and handed in at the mobile phone window located at the front of the school. Mobile phones will be stored in a lockable cabinet. Students can collect their mobile phone from 3pm.
Please note if your child is found to have a mobile phone or SMART device in their bags they will be confiscated and parents/carers will be required to meet with the deputy principal or principal to collect their child's mobile phone.
Attached is the procedure and permission note which needs to be returned to school if your child needs to bring a mobile phone to school.
Back to School Requirements
To help you and your child/ren start to prepare for the 2024 school year we have listed the requirements for each grade from Kindergarten to Year 6. Students in Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 are asked to bring:
* a box of tissues
* a pump hand soap (liquid)
* a pack of baby wipes
For students in Stage 2 (Years 3 & 4) and Stage 3 (Years 5 & 6) we have attached a requirements list to ensure the purchasing of the correct equipment for each grade.
We thank you for your cooperation with organising your child/ren for a successful start to 2024.
Water Bottles
This week we have had students bring glass water bottles to school. These bottles have broken and the glass has shattered. Please do not buy glass bottles for your child to ensure the safety of students. Plastic or metal water bottles are best for school.
School Community Charter
The following School Community Charter outlines the responsibilities of parents, carers, educators and school staff in NSW public schools to ensure our learning environments are collaborative, supportive and cohesive. Please remember to follow these expectations at all times and model this to your child daily.
I look forward to a wonderful 2024 with many learning experiences and opportunities for our students. As always if you have any questions please contact the school office on 9602 7882.

Principal

Attendance Matters - Every Day Matters
We want to do all we can to ensure your child achieves their potential and enjoys being in school. One way we can help make this happen is to be sure your child attends school each day unless they are sick, have Covid-19 symptoms, or are absent for a justified reason.
Being at school every day boosts student learning and confidence and helps them build and maintain friendships. Protecting the wellbeing of our students through the reporting and monitoring of student absences is the responsibility of both parents/carers and schools. Notifying the school either before or on the day that your child is away helps us keep accurate student attendance records to support you and your child.
We know that school is the best place to learn and regular attendance means students can stay on top of their schoolwork and get the most out of their learning. If you are having trouble getting your child to school every day or on time, please talk to our school staff so we can work together, because every day counts.
Missing a day here or there may not seem like much, but absences add up and can impact your child’s learning. When your child misses one day a week over a year, that’s 40 days of school, 8 weeks of lessons and 2.5 years over their school life lost.
Our school strives for the expected attendance rate which is above 95% of students at school each day over the year.

At Liverpool Public School we expect all students to be borrowing from the school library on their allocated day.
