McCool Academy Mission Update

THIS ENTIRE FIRST WEEK we will follow our Family Time Bell Schedule. This schedule will allow students to have time to check in with their 4th period teacher. Within our Family Time learners will have a trusted adult they can turn to in dealing with social or emotional needs, or for academic guidance. This staff member will support their “family member” by checking their grades, attending extracurricular events, and being the trusted adult on campus. Our students will also have other peers within their “families” they can reach out to if they are in need of peer support or advice.

***Please bring a water bottle. All water fountains will be shut off and covered!***

Please have your student bring school supplies from the school supplies list that has been posted online to school. We will be collecting them within their classes. Students will have them collected by their core content teachers (Humanities, Science and Math). We will be collecting them this week only.

Please be aware of your chromebook usage as students are utilizing their chromebooks at home and during the school year. Students will be assigned their chromebooks for the school year and will be bringing their devices back and forth with them. Student history is immediately available to administration and counselors. We are able to view content that students upload or view on their devices and receive alerts when the content is inappropriate - this includes Netflix movies that are not rated for the appropriate age, social media content, and much more. Please be responsible with your technology usage as this could impact your child's ability to remain as a transfer student at McCool Academy. GoGuardian software helps our McCool Academy community navigate through their devices, better understand their students, and keep them safer online.

As a reminder, all students will be dropped off at the south side entrance of the school. Please be sure to pull over along the curb to drop students off rather than the middle of the street. We want to ensure each student's safety along with respecting the families behind us that are waiting to drop their child off as well. After school, as mentioned before, your child will exit out of the nearest exit doors. Please be sure to communicate with your child in regard to where you will pick them up after school.

Dear Parents,

Your 7th grade virtual CA student will be dismissed at 8:40am from 1st period. The student pick up area will be the south main entrance of the school. If the students aren’t picked up by 9:05am they will be asked to come back into school for safety reasons. The students will be released when their ride arrives. If student pick up continues to be delayed it will result in a change of schedule from the CA period.

All learners will NEED to bring their Chromebooks FULLY CHARGED to school everyday. We will be doing a chromebook exchange for our face-to-face learners here at the campus this week so please be sure your child brings their chromebook. Thank you to those families that came and dropped off items to the school but we too want to make sure our students leave home prepared for the school day.

Many families have requested a school map in regard to navigating about the campus. We have uploaded our school map on our McCool Academy Google Site (click here). All of our face-to-face learners will believe a school map on the back of their schedules PRIOR to entering the school.

I cannot stress enough the importance of being here face-to-face or virtually this first week. Also please be advised that as a magnet campus, McCool Academy has 100% of their students as transfers. The transfer is based on student attendance and behavior. We want to ensure your child does in fact stay here at McCool Academy for the coming years but will also need your help that their attendance and behavior are on the right track beginning DAY ONE!

For our virtual learners we understand you will need a way to connect with your teachers. By clicking on the following link here (or below) you will look for your teacher's name within the spreadsheet on the home page (seen in orange). You will then be directed to the teacher's home page and you will then find their Google Hangout link at the top of the page. Once you are there you are able to connect with the class. Please be sure you are in the correct CLASS PERIOD otherwise you will be marked absent.
