RHHS Wildcats: News You Can Use

Thank you all for an amazing Homecoming 2019 week. Our students and staff truly showed their creative talents and school spirit this week, from dress-up days, to lunch activities, to the parade and pep rally. Parents - thank you for your support in all the preparations for this week. We would not be able to put all of this together without your help.

We would like to remind everyone that we are back to our normal routines next week. Please make sure your child is coming to school in dress code. Hats, crop tops and shorter than fingertip length shorts should be saved for times outside school hours. We are looking forward to another great week at RHHS!

On Wednesday, October 16th, we will administer the PSAT to all 10th grade students and registered 11th grade students. All 9th grade and 11th grade students not registered to take the test, will stay with their advisors in an assigned room until the test ends. These students will complete the YouScience career assessment and participate in Monique Burr Teen Safety lessons delivered by our counselors. The timeframe for the PSAT is 7:30-11:35. Students will report directly to their assigned advisor classrooms for YouScience activities as well as PSAT testing.

Wednesday, October 16, 2019, will be a digital learning day for seniors. Seniors will not be expected to attend school on campus, but instead will complete assignments for the day from home.

Assignments will be posted by your child's advisor to their advisement’s Google Classroom. The assignment must be completed no later than 3pm, October 16, in order to get credit for the digital learning day. If the assignment is not completed, your child will be marked absent for October 16, 2019 and will not be allowed to exempt their exams at the end of the semester. Assignments should be posted to Google Classroom by October 9th. Seniors may choose to complete the assignments before October 16th if they would like.

We are excited to make this option available to the class of 2020, and we hope that we have 100% completion of the assignments.

On Wednesday, October 16, all 9th and 11th grade students who are not taking the PSAT will participate in Monique Burr Teen Safety Matters lessons delivered by our school counselors. Please see the information sheet linked below for details about the program. If after reading through the information you choose for your student not to participate in these lessons, please print, complete and return the Opt-out form (linked below) to either school office by Friday, October 11.

Photo packets from Lifetouch have been distributed to 9th -11th grade students by their 1st block teachers. RHHS will have a Picture Retake day on October 7 during 1st block for any students interested in retaking their photo. Should you choose to have retakes done, please have your student bring their picture packet with them on October 7th to give to the photographer.

Each senior is fully responsible for making his/her appointment for his/her senior pictures. There are still appointments available. If you are a senior and have not yet made your appointment, please do this today by clicking the link below! Appointments are still available for October 12 and 19. These are the last opportunities for seniors to have both formal and casual photo poses. Any senior who has not been photographed will have formal pictures only made during school on October 21.

RHHS has just joined the district-wide Overdrive collection, so we now have access to even more e-books & audiobooks! Students and staff can go to https://soraapp.com/library/resaga, choose Bryan County School District from the drop-down, & login using your school Google Account. Login is the same now for both faculty AND students. Our old Overdrive page is no longer active, so please update your bookmarks to include the new RESA collection!

This year, RHHS Drama is co-sponsoring their annual haunted forest fundraiser. Drama members will be performing every Friday and Saturday in October. Tickets are $20 per person, but there will be an RH Appreciation Night on Saturday, October 12 – students and staff/faculty of Richmond Hill schools can wear wildcat gear or have their school IDs to receive $5 off admission. AP Exam registration is earlier this year for students in first semester or year-long AP classes. Exam fees are due by October 31 for students who are taking first semester or year-long courses. Once again, for the 2020 AP exams, students at Richmond Hill High School will be registering online. This registration will only take a few minutes and can be completed from any computer with internet access. Once students complete their registration on Total Registration, they should proceed to myap.collegeboard.org to log into their AP Online Classroom where they will find lots of resources their teachers are using to enhance the learning experience.

Yearbooks are ON SALE for $70 until December 31. Also, SENIOR ADS are on sale until December 1. To purchase both a senior ad and/or a yearbook, go to www.yearbookordercenter.com and key in our school’s order number (902).

During weekly advisement the next four weeks, we will be studying the second mindset: "Passion First". The first topic in this unit, "Focus on Strengths", will be completed in advisement next week.

Below is a copy of the parent newsletter for our "Passion First" unit. Please read this and follow along each week with the planned advisement lesson.

The After School Detention/Tutorial program started Monday, August 12th in room 411. Tutorial/detention runs from 2:40 – 4:15 every Monday through Thursday. Students who are on the obligations list for owing detention should plan to stay after school to meet their obligation as soon as possible. Students may also come to this program for extra help from content area teachers. On Mondays, students can receive help in math. An English/Language Arts teacher will be available on Tuesdays. On Wednesday, students can have tutoring in science and Thursdays are Social Studies tutoring.
