My Journey with Gillette
Miracle Treat Day 2017
Gillette's Gait Lab: November 1987
Gillette's Gait Lab opened around February 1987; I was a patient there in November of that year. The lab is one of the world's busiest for gait analysis performing over 500 tests annually! Amazingly, it is about an hour from where I live. The information from this lab helped my surgeon operate with precision, eliminating the need for multiple surgeries.
Gillette Hospital: October 1988
My bones were broken and my tendons were lengthened surgically to correct my gait. I was in a body cast for 6 weeks to heal and then followed up with physical therapy.
Gillette Lifetime 2012-Present
I didn't need medical intervention in my teenage years, but around 28, started to feel more fatigued. I was introduced to Gillette Lifetime, a clinic that treats adults with cerebral palsy. They have helped me with shoe inserts, an ankle-foot orthosis (AFO), and a grant so I could purchase an adaptive bike! In 2014, I published Walking With Tension about my journey with CP. I donated copies both to Gillette Lifetime and United Cerebral Palsy MN which is now housed at Gillette.
